  • What’s material to sheet my garage

Posted by Martin Gray on September 5, 2017 at 11:43 am

Hello. I’m currently working out of my house garage I’ve insulated my roof and have installed a heater but it’s still needs more and with the winter near I’m thinking of insulating my walls. I would be framing it then kingspan and putting a sheet over it. Now I don’t want to put plaster board over it as this would be more work to tape it and paint it. Would there be a be affordable sheet I think composite would be to expensive. I did hear there might be a sheet material that is already insulated and white so this might a option.

it’s well known that I started out (and managed for some years) in a 12 x 8 timber workshop!

I used batten, celotex, then plasterboarded using a moisture resistand board, though you could use regular board or as I have here in my current ‘built office’, 12mm ply.

You can put printed wallpaper directly to the plasterboard if you wanted to, or any other substrate to make it look nice. I wouldn’t use composite in place of plasterboard or ply though, not thermal quality at all in my guesses!

I second what hugh said. I would personally go with ply, less hassle and you can finish it how you want. Lick of paint or some graphics.

I’d listen to Hugh, from memory he could get it so toasty in his ‘shed’, he didn’t need to wear clothes

Ply or OSB over solid insulation is probably your best bet (OSB is usually cheaper)
