what paint would be suitable for slates?

Hi,

I fancy having a go at sandblasting some slate. I was just wondering what type of paint is best for using afterwards, i.e. Brand, where to get, and methods, prime undercoat gloss etc. Would any of the Dulux range be suitable, oil based undercoats and gloss, or the weathershield exterior masonary paint??

Hi!
One shot lettering enamels should be fine for slate. I would just test a bit before you do the whole job just to be sure though!
You can get them from Handovers, Wrights of Lymme, Gold Leaf Supplies.

Thanks for your reply aj, any systems reccommended, i.e. undercoating, priming etc., and don’t suppose you have a phone number or web address for any of those companies mentioned please?

Hi Alistair

I have got some sealer that I have used for slate. Its called HG Marble Impregnator, it protects porous stone. I think I bought it from a tile shop.
The place I tend to get my paint and brushes from is Gold leaf supplies. Ive got a number here on an old booklet 01656 860 109. http://www.goldleafsupplies.co.uk
