What media should I use here?
Posted by Simon Worrall on November 23, 2016 at 6:44 amThis wall was painted with matt acrylic paint a year ago.
The Customer wants the recess and the front of the stairs covered with a 4720 x 3600 print.
What would everyone use for this job, and how do you laminate it?
Thanks

I use LG 5-7 year vinyl with a Matt laminate. LG compared to many digital vinyl does have a pretty high tack to it!

That wall looks awesome!
How do you avoid scratching the bare print during installation? -
Thanks, it worked so well, one of our fav’s.
We use felt squeegee’s (standard & jumbo!), not had a issue.

Seeing the surface finish, texture etc helps determine what print media to use. I have tried various over the years.
Neschen do a range of wall-covering media via Artsystems and before that Paperlinx, Muraspec offer a range too which we sourced via Papergraphics. I have only ever used the self adhesive wallpapers and had them up and in place quick and easy.whatever you use, be sure to make sure the wall has checked over and bonding applied etc.
depending on customer spec / requirements of course, but laminate is not needed. never had any problems with marking the face during application. felt squeegee is all i have used though i imagine there maybe better tools for the job, its what i am good with! :smiles:

Rob I am happy you mention Neschen, because I had a rep come in by chance after I posted this question, who sells it, and he was singing their praises for a textured wallpaper option.
I have no experience with it so I couldnt confirm his enthusiasm.
It is nice to see that backed up by somebody who actually uses the stuff. :smiles:
I think the customer is tending this way, and I will probably just print and supply the non self-adhesive option and get a decorator to handle the installation for me.Simon.

Morning Simon
Without question I would use a digital print wallpaper
We do a huge amount each year and the overall effect is
Fantastic.
Vinyls and wall wrap are good but they tend to exaggerate
Any imperfections in the substrate surface.
In my opinion, a wallpaper installed correctly wins hands
Down on quality and finish -
Thank you Iain.
Do you use the self adhesive version or the paste up version?
And what brand do you recommend for a solvent printer?
Simon. -
Have to agree with Iain on this one. I’ve printed and applied wall wrap vinyl, digital print wallpaper, and digital print removable self-adhesive wallpaper, and wallpaper leaves the best finish (personally).
Vinyl tends to be a bit thinner and stretchier than wallpaper so like Iain said, it seems to show up any imperfections in the surface more.
Digital print wallpaper (non-adhesive) works exactly like standard wallpaper, and I too have only ever used a felt squeegee (although make sure it’s nice and fresh as I’ve used a part-worn one the first time I installed it and did make a couple of marks).
I’ve only used the removable self-adhesive wallpaper, and it seemed to be absolutely fine, so I imagine the non-removable versions would be too.
In terms of production, we use Arlon DFP 80 for wall wrap, and the Papergraphics Muramour range for digital print wallpaper (‘Lisse’ and ‘Sable’ I think). No issues with either to be honest.
Be interested to know how you get on!

quote Simon Worrall:Rob I am happy you mention Neschen, because I had a rep come in by chance after I posted this question, who sells it, and he was singing their praises for a textured wallpaper option.
yes the Neschen wallpaper was the first one i ever used. did all our office walls in it about 6 years ago. "non-textured self adhesive" but comes in the paste only option too. We have also used it on shopping centre walls were we did not do the application but a decorator did and he said it was good to work with, but that WAS paste-on wallpaper.
Muraspec have a big range of digital wallpaper and i think a lot of suppliers sell that under their own brand name, but regardless it is a great product.
