  • What knifes do you use for cutting?

I’ve seen many different knifes used for cutting when it comes to finishing a wrap. What knifes do you use? Is there a industry standard blade to use or do you use a normal snap off blade like I do? I find that when I’m cutting along long areas it’s difficult to keep the cut consistent so was wondering if there was a correct tool for the job.

We use Swann Morton retractable blade holders with 10a type blades.. Swear by them.. Dont really know what others use but they work for us better than others by far.

Yup – not been without my trusty 10A blades for near 14 years now.

Retractable handle’s a bonus. But the ‘normal’ (slim) gold handles are much nicer for weeding with.

Ive only just started using them this week after being shown them at the wrapping course. I use a siser weeder and tweezers for weeding however as I value my fingers lol!!

The No.10 blade with it’s curved cutting edge is one of the more traditional blade shapes and is used generally for making small incisions in skin and muscle .

    i can vouch for that,

Just rang John E Wright & co in Nottingham. 69p for a pack of 5 blades and £2.78 inc vat for the holder. Thought they’d cost more than this. 😉

In my experience, I’ve used the 10A and gold handle and the more recent retractable for about 40 years, they do not last very long, mainly because you tend to use just the point. Buy boxes of 20 x 5 blades they’re just a bit cheaper.
Even when they are too blunt to cut vinyl properly they can still be used to very good effect on human flesh 😛

    regretfully & painfully I agree.

Cut the tops off my middle & index finger twice now (through the nail…not nice), flicked off the bench to land in feet / legs, put non-retracted blade in pocked to…stab hand or wonder why leg felt a bit clammy.

Besides that – best tool I have.

Would suggest getting a few handles though and a box of blades. Also, keep on BLUNT blade (ruined tip) as a weeding one as the new ultra sharp ones are useless as they just go through everything.

Has anyone else notice the points are made different than they use to be?
On the 10a I’m sure they use to just have a straight cutting edge to the pointed tip.

Last lot I ordered have a slightly different angle just before the tip.

Just checked a blade from my most recent box and it’s straight.
