  • what is the quickest way to cut PVC??

Posted by Nick Dowell on March 7, 2008 at 2:51 pm

    Hi all,

We produce a very large quantity of PVC banners and Roller banner stands with this being our main business.

To date we have always just cut these by hand – knife and ruler or scissors, but are looking at other avenues to speed the process along.

    1) Does anyone use the cut facility on their plotter/printer to contour cut PVC – or this is a stupid idea?
    2) Does anyone have a "javelin" or similar cutter from Jag Sign Supplies, and what do they think?
    3) Or any other suggestion?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Tim,

Thanks for your reply. We have one of them already that we use to roughly cut flags before final stitching, though we really need – and especially for the roller banners something that is going to cut really cleanly to the edge of the print.

you do get these trimmers they are called fletcher – terry cutters & trimmers.

They cut corex and fomex and PVC and all kinds of things Look like they work very well.

From my experience you need a circular blade to do the job properly and easlily.

I have a Javelin mounted to a ‘Big Bench’ 3mx1.5 It works very well, esp for roll up bannerstands.

I also use a Javelin. Great for full length sheets of foam pvc plus nice crisp edge when cropping mounted prints.
The bench MUST be dead flat to work properly.
