What in general would be the best vinyl for 4-7 years vehicle application.

i currently use imageperfect 5700 series and ecotac E3000+

Interested to find out what members views are on this

The imageperfect is OK as a good all-rounder 5-7 yr but the E3000+ is a 3-5 year monomeric – and I wouldn’t touch it even for free as a vehicle vinyl, it’s just not up to the job for more than a year in my opinion.

Currently I’m using 3M 50 series and it performs quite well.

Also use MacTac 9800 if I have to provide a livery for ‘fleet’ as it’s a slightly superior product.

Neither is a ‘cheap’ vinyl – but you usually get what you pay for.

I think most of the good quality vinyls are fine.
My preferred vinyls are Oracal, 3M and Mactac. These are about the only 3 I use unless I’m caught short and have to order something else.

Ive been out of the game for a while now, and im just getting back into it. Alot has changed in the last 10 years regarding vinyls.

We have just purchased some Avery jac vinyl, in part of as starter pack. What are peoples opinions on this product?

I only use cast vinyl on vehicles.
The two vinyls with whom I have never had a failure in 12 years are 3M (rebranded as Geber) and Calon II by Arlon.
I use a lot of Oracal 751, 851, and 951 for cut vinyl lettering.
Don’t print or wrap so I have no advice there.
And everybody knows I am still b!tching about Avery A9 and its major fail.
    😀

    Hmmm…

the low grade 3-4 yr JAC is dire – the 5-7 yr is OK. (Tried it a few years back)
I don’t like the way it cut, weeds or applies so don’t use it – but the next person may swear by it.

right… thanks for the feedback. It is the 5-7 year vinyl we have. As soon as i get the plotter working (or more likely buy another) then i will report back.

Ill watch this thread closely for advice on vinyl.

    cheers

yep the IP5700 is a very good all round material but don’t stretch it.
weapon of choice for all normal flat ish work.

Used the Ecotac for years and never had a problem with it. It’s easily the best ‘economy’ vinyl.

I suppose that’s the great debate. Some people won’t touch calendared – it’s GOT to be cast, I won’t go near 3-4 year monomeric due to past disappointments.

    The way I look at it – a 3-4 yr say £2/m, 5-7 yr £4/m 8-12 yr cast £8/m

If the ‘average’ van uses 5m it costs £10 / £20 / £40 respectively. I just prefer to know that it’ll looks good until they get rid of the van in 4-5 years time and it’s not going to have lifted where I’ve taken it over some curves…for the sake of an extra £10..that the customer pays for anyway.

Wow, only just joined this website and am amazed at the response, cheers.

I suppose it also comes down to the job your doing and the client, ie if they only want to pay peanuts.

    thanks again

    What’s airless vinyl Glorianne?

Special Film: Iridescent, A high quality self adhesive cast vinyl to completely cover flat surfaces. This vinyl has an exterior life of 8/10 yrs.
Ultra-permanent acrylic with very high cohesion. the glue called "Air Free FT-system" has small channels, which allows the air to escape.
There’s no need to use water or anything else to apply it, absolutely (airfree) no bubbles really good specifically for sandblasted applications.
