  • what is the best method for hemming banners?

    Hi Guys and Girls,

Firstly, I wasn’t sure exactly where to post this so, mods please move it if it’s in the wrong place!

    Now, here’s my query…
For years now we’ve been using double sided tape to hem our PVC banners and in the main this is a more than adequate solution. There is the slight disadvantage that when rolled into a tube you tend to get some puckering or ribbing on the hem, but we’ve never had any complaints.
What we would like to do is extend our capabilities, by doing more fabric based products like flags etc and are considering getting a stitching machine in order to hem.

I’ve done some considerable googling and I don’t seem to be getting anywhere!
Can anyone recommend a stitching machine that doesn’t take up a great deal of space that would be capable of stitching 500gsm PCV banner or light weight flag material?
Or on the other hand, I have been looking into welding machines as an alternative, could this be an option for flags as well or would stitching be the better solution?

    Many Thanks
    Chris.

Thanks Robert, upon reading that post, it really doesn’t seem like welding is what we are looking for.

Ian, this sounds like the solution for us. Do you have any names of suppliers for these walking foot sewing machines? When I was on my googling spree all I managed to find was a Chinese supplier in broken English selling ‘vewy good for you sewing machines, only from 3000 sterling pounds and deliver for you’. :lol1:
