    What’s causing this then?

Yesterday I ran a print on my Cadet and discovered (having sat all weekend) that the magenta ink wasn’t printing – but was printing yellow instead (yellow ink had transferred across into the magenta tube). I checked the magenta ink level and discovered it was about empty so I changed to a new cartridge. Today I have the opposite problem whereby the magenta ink has gotten into the yellow feed tube.

I’ve cured it by pulling ink through with a syringe – and then printing a series of solid blocks of yellow until the magenta was out of the yellow ink system.

My query is why is this happening – The machine was cleaned as per the normal procedure on friday which was the last thing done prior to this happening. Before then it was working perfectly.

I have had this once before and put it down to having run out of ink – but today I know there is a half full yellow cartridge in place, so why are the tubes being cross contaminated?

    hi phill

hope you are well, i have had this problem a few times, most of which it has been down to the pump needing replacing (solvent attacks the seals), how olds your machine? had mine 3 years and it has had 3 pumps in that time. I have mine under contract with B&P and they just send the pump out very easy to fit 3 screws to remove cover and then one to remove the pump, connect pipes, job done. the other thing to check is that the capping station and the pipe to the pump are not blocked. do this by removing the pipe from the pump and put some flush in the capping station head if it runs straight through its ok if not it’s blocked, let it stand for a bit with the flush in, then pull it though with the syringe which has always cleared mine. hope this makes sense phill

    regards

    Paul

how old are your capping stations, normally the reason for your problem is that the sponges have swollen allowing ink to syphon from one set of nozzles to the next. The fault can be further increased by pump blockages, low ink carts etc. It is recommended that the capping station are changed every 6-12 months. Changing the capping stations is a simple job & will take approx 20minutes at most cost approx £25.00 – £30.00 each.

    Hope this helps

    Thanks for the advice.

I’m wondering if there was a bad seal between the head and capping station since this happened since my end of week clean on Friday. I’m going to re-clean around the capping station to see if this prevents a re-currence. Pretty sure it’s not the pump and the tubes aren’t blocked as I always pippette some cleaning fluid onto the sponges and turn the pump over to draw the fluid through – did this as usual on Friday and it all drained away fine, but I’ll re-check anyway

Thanks George – if the problem isn’t solved by cleaning that is next on my list to do 😀

Phil sounds like the capping stations have swollen as already mentioned yes they are a dodle to change but just be aware of the 2 springs under each cap if you are doing it yourself

I have worked on a number of these machines with contamination issues and it was either the caps, pumps but on occasion the dampers but more likely to be the first 2

also to check if your pump is ok do a normal or powerful clean and while it is doing that gently unscrew yhe waste bottle and see if the 2 tubes leading into the waste bottle are P1ssing ink if they are you have a good seal.

Also check to see if you have ink on the cogs of the pump. if you have then you have a ink leak inside the pump.

Hi Stevie – I’m in Scotland (Livingston). However, I have a maintenance contract with B&P so if the problem recurs with the machine tomorrow I’ll give them a ring and ask for advice and maybe a new capping station.

Thanks for the advice Steve. However, given that I already pay to have a maintenance contract it would be pointless asking someone else to come and look at the machine. Only if I found myself dissatisfied with the service I got from B&P would I outsource an engineer.

Please don’t take this the wrong way – I do appreciate you taking the trouble to offer some advice
