  • what fluorescent Vinyl can be used for Ambulance?

Posted by Gary Davis on October 19, 2004 at 9:25 pm

    Hi,

Been asked to do an ambulance, it has been previously signwritten with a fluorescent stripe to both sides, this has faded and the customer would like it replaced. My question is where can i get a ‘longlife’ fluorescent yellow vinyl, my current suppliers only do them upto 6months outdoors.
Secondly will the old stuff be a pain to remove, like reflective is?
I am told there are high conspicuity films available (think im right in thinking they have a ‘honeycomb’ appearance) how much could i expect to pay for these? And where could i get it?
If anyone can recommend a better vinyl to use than standard fluorescent/high conspicuity please do, as i think the customer will refuse the use of high conspicuity vinyl as i have heard it is Very expensive.

    Any advice appreciated.

Is it possible, if after applying new flourescent striping,
to coat them out with 1-Shot UV clear?

I’ve never used flourescents simply because of the fade factor.
    Love…..Jill

I think you’ll find that Oracal have a 2 year fluro that they use for ambulances here in Australia. Pretty sure Avery may have one too.

most day-glo/flourescent is short life, 6-12months max. it has a sorta matt/sheen on the surface. i have used some better stuff that comes with a glossier face, it is possible it was oracal, but i cant be certain. if asking, dont assume you just get the better stuff. some sales folk are none the wiser and simply give what is in front of them.

the high grade honeycomb stuff from 3M is available from Wm Smith. ask for mark brown and mention i have passed your name on. he has promised to give a good price on 3M and Ritrama products. nice guy & certainly knows his stuff with regards to vinyl etc.. been in our game many years now…

another source for reflectives is grafityp, maybe an idea to call them on the day-glo striipes. sorry cant remember exactly what is on the go but sure i have seen it in their brochures.
