what does everyone use for removing glue from windows?

I did do a search and neither of those threads turned up 😕
I’m particularly interested at the moment because we have just had our hands smacked (very hard actually) for using a solvent in an office environment. My fitter took it upon himself to use it as it was taking too long using the normal method and created a Riddor with 2 of the office workers.
I think I will look at a specific adhesive remover, but everyone seems to have different opinions.

Spray it with window cleaner and remove whilst soaking wet with a wide scraper blade (Stanley do one about 4" wide with a long handle).

I just use plenty of water from a spray, and a wide scraper. Seems to work pretty well. Make sure you have a sharp blade though.

Not in an office environment you wouldn’t, the question is what alternatives are there to solvents for interior use?

Been through a whole spectrum of removal techniques.

From peeling / picking, window scraper, meths, citrus adhesive remover….

Best thing – brand new window scraper (stanley or razor blade type) and plain / lightly soapy water. Shave off the vinyl & clean up the adhesive.

Takes ALL of the vinyl off and ALL of the adhesive without streaking, solvents or getting high in someone’s office.

Then just a light wipe down with some meths – perfect.

I use a two inch stanley blade scraper. pushing and going into the vinyl at an angle rather than straight into it. a bit like a one side snow plough! if that makes sense? 😕
any glue left i use "tar and glue remover" used by auto valet centres. can buy it pretty easy from those type of suppliers and its cheap!
soak a rag and dab it over the adhesive area. leave it a couple of minutes and then soak again. but this time use the blade scraper on the adhesive and it just lfts it right off. each scrape will require you to quickly wipe the glue gunk off the blade. as you glo along… takes not time at all…
any dull patches left on the glass you just wipe over with meths. job done…

white spirits does a similar job but needs left for a longer period before scraping glue off.

rapid-tac remover does same again but will probably smell nicer as it got citrus in it. you can buy that from All-Print supplies.

i hear what you say about it being an office environment but something has got to give… im assuming your charging for removal? this being the case. if you have to use an inferior/slower method of removal then make sure your charging by the hour.
alternatively open some windows and try what i have said above. doesnt take long at all and doesnt smell anymore than meths will do.
if this is still not an option then ide suggest an after hours job charged at an after hours rate. there is only so much you can do to accommodate.

thanks for the replies, I think we will definitely try the soapy water method (although sceptical I will wait to be proved wrong).
In this very litigious world you have to show you are doing the right thing..!!
