what does everyone think of Thomson Directories?
We keep on getting phonecalls from Thomson Directories saying they wish to check the business details they have on file to ensure they are up to date.
Last week they called and I told them our contact details had not changed since the last time I spoke to them and were still the came as in the current directory. Yes (the caller replied) but I still need to go over this with you – this call is being recorded for training purposes.
I hate people wasting my time so I hung up.
She immediately phoned back – Alison answered the phone this time and told her again – "our business details have not changed" and she also hung up before being tied up in conversation with the caller.
Five minute later – I went to make a phonecall to discover the phone line was still open. The Thomson Directory caller had simply left their receiver off the hook thereby tying up my important business telephone line for the next half hour or so. Cheeky or what!!
When the line eventually became back again I tried to trace the callers number to discover it was with held.
I will not be dealing with these people any more in future.

I’ve had the same calls from Thompsons and others. I have, for a long time now, refused to give any information to anyone on the phone, with no exceptions. I usually say ‘if you want to confirm any details we’ll do it by post’
I noticed at the weekend, that an undersea cable that links Europe to the Indian call centres was recently cut, and will take at least 2 weeks to repair. Hopefully that’ll mean a few less calls the ‘person who deals with you telecommunications’ etc etc for a few days.Steve

When Thompson Local contact me over advertising etc. they always ask if I use the directory myself. I always tell them that I use it daily. I then tell them that as soon as it arrives, I cut off the spine, drill a hole in one corner and hang it up in the toilet. They don’t seem that interested in talking to me after this 😕

Personally I don’t know how these people survive.
OK maybe for finding a window cleaner or for olduns’ that can’t lift the yellow pages but does it really attract business?
I’m sure that most who advertise in there do it because they can’t run to a second mortgage for yellow pages.
I’ll tell you why they make these calls. It’s because they compile lists of business and contact details and sell them on for marketing to all and sundry.
To justify their product they have to verify all data is correct and up to date.
