  • What do you vectorise with?

Posted by Chris Whitehead on January 27, 2011 at 10:59 am

Morning all, I was just wondering what everyone else uses to vectorise with? I’ve been using Illustrator, and the live trace feature, but the results are never too great.

What do you use? and how do you find it on intricate jobs?

    Thanks

    Chris

Ive ever used a trace feature in any software. i find it more laboring tidying a traced feature up hand doing from scratch.

always used Signlab. its easy, accurate and quick to trace.
simply scan an image, or save from web. import into Signlab and trace on screen.

there are various ways to speed you up in the software. practice makes perfect…

    Hi Chris,

i’m with Rob, you need to learn to do it by hand, single colour logo is ok sometimes, or to make a sillhouette but multiple colours / layers etc and hand is the only way.

    I use corel 12 and X5.

I use Vector Magic even though I have Signlab 8.
In comparison it makes the Signlab feature pretty redundant.
The logical control of the process and the results are just outstanding.
    Try it free online:

    Vector Magic every time.
Takes 2-3 mins. each logo and can save hours of manual digitizing in Corel or Illustrator.
    No other programme comes close.

i’ll have a look at the vector magic.

despite manual drawing taking some time on complicated jobs, especially when drawing from scratch with nothing to trace, I genuinely get a good level of satisfaction from drawing something and then sitting back to see it on the customers ‘whatever’. 😀

Yes, I have vector magic, have tried everything else, and this beats them all. It seems expensive but you get 2 licenses. I have it on my Mac and PC.

I use an old running machine that I bought from Argos a few years ago. Don’t use it so much nowadays though…(?)

…sorry, I thought you said "what do you exercise with" 😕
