    Hi All,

What do you use to prepare the surface of vans and cars before applying vinyl to them?

Also where do you buy yours from?

    Thanks in advance
    from

    Hi Mark

I now always ask customers to supply vehicle washed, tell them just fairy liquid and hot water and rinse off to get rid of any polish.
a lot of car washes leave a waxy residue,
then i go over the area with isopropanol alcohol some people use meths
but some problems on white vans with this.
any glue from previous graphics i use auto glym tar and glue remover,(make sure you quote for removal of old graphics as this is a pain)
you can save loads of time and money just in the preparation.
or you can charge a premium for washing the vehicle to start with.
    hope this helps

    quote Derek Heron:

    good advice…..

if i dont have isoprop i use meths, but the clear stuff in huge bottles rather than the purple b&q stuff 😀

i use it with WHITE paper towel type roll… not coloured as the coloured stuff can ract with the meth and the dye marks the vehicle if white.

We use isoprop and insist the van is cleaned but always remind the client not to wax/polish etc as some use shampoos with the wax coating already in.
