  • What do you use, Composite or PVC Sheet?

Posted by Peter Cassidy on November 6, 2022 at 9:04 pm

Do you find you use as much acrylic and PVC foam board products these days or have you moved more to composite?
I find that my customers just accept what i give them and seldom if ever ask for a specific plastic sheet. The only time it gets mentioned is when they say “i just want a cheap plastic, nothing expensive!”
but as most of us must know, it is anything but cheap in comparison to composite and hoard board.

This got me wondering, is the price of things like PVC sheet products going up “on purpose” to drive down sales of PVC rather than the list of covid excuses for most things these days. By that i mean shipping costs, availability and all else. Which should be starting to stablise now covid appears pushed to the side and the war pulled forward. 🧐

    Composite all day.

Since the very first time I saw it, i have used nothing else for flat and trays.
its 100% better than anything else in every way.

I only ever use foam when specified by the client, otherwise its composite for pretty much everything nowadays, not much in the way of cost difference

Composite for almost everything exterior. PVC for dimensional graphics. Non-glare Acrylic for interior wayfinding signage.

We are the same, 95% of what we do goes out on a quality branded Composite.
We do short-life advertising boards on fluted PVC.
We occasionally use 10mm & 19mm foamex for flat-cut internal letters.
We will use 5mm & 10mm acrylic for decorative and architectural-type signs on stand-off locators.

We sent a price decrease. Letter out to our customers last month announcing a 7% de crease on our foamalite Foam PVC sheet and prices seem to as competitive as ever in the market place. Unfortunately Foam PVC is still in high demand in the industry despite how harmful it is to the environment and hopefully we will see a switch across to more environmentally friendly alternatives.

Internal work can easily be switched to display board (white cardboard). We now offer this in 3mm and 4.5 mm thickness, printed direct on mounted on to with PVC free print film

Short term external work can fluted polypropylene, or the above card (yes it’s weather proof)

    Long term ACM, acrylic etc
