what colours early police vehicles used
Hi all,
I have a customer that rents out various vehicle to the film industries and is no looking for the right colours and material (if still available) for police car livery in the late 1970’s, the 1980’s and the 1990’s.
I know it’s a long shot but I am hoping someone on the boards had done this kind of work at the time and still has some kind of record of materials, codes, whatever, written down somewhere.
I phoned various police departments and all I get is "so you want to make a car look like a police car do you?" then ‘click’.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

ooh, my first post, could it be an idea to get the closest colour match you can find and use that? the problem with photos from those eras is colour degradation in the photos themselves, so finding an exact match would be hard, especially with the police unwilling to help.

it was ages ago if i recall, we all have those jobs that re-surface months after we think they’re lost!

Companies like William Smith’s will have had the work then as they do now so they’ll most likely have a record.
If you point out it’s to recreate old police vehicle liveries they they should have no problem.
