  • what can i do with light boxes on an exhibition stand?

Posted by Russell Huffer on March 14, 2008 at 11:19 pm

I have taken over an existing exhibition stand and on each corner it has a curved graphic that has a tube light hanging behind it.

My client is taking about getting new graphics made for these however i do not have a clue where to start. I belive they are acrylic and know that the graphic is stuck on the front face.

    1. Where can i get acrylic sheet 2.5 x 1 M
    2. Have seacrhed the boards and found mention of opace to stop light source being seen, is this a layer on the back or could it be the type of vynil the graphic is printed onto.
    3. best printer to use dye or solvent.

Any help or pointers would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Russell.

The acrylic you are looking for Russell is OPAL it is a milky white looking material.
There are various grades depending on how much light you want to come through the face.It also comes in various thicknesses 3,4 5,6 10mm thick.
Most if not all plastics suppliers will have it.

Thanks for your help Fred Mc so far 101 people have read this and still not one person can suggest print dye or solvent.

I have only done exhibition work and so until now have never used any type of plastic, so I do not have a plastic supplier, I was hoping that someone else on here may be able to point me in the direction of a plastic supplier local to A1M junction 9 in Hertfordshire and maybe give me some advice on pitfals of making a light box graphics.

Should I should I not laminate, this is a job I am being quoted £440.00 per panel by the previous supplier but I belive I have all the equipment to make in house myself for less than this but do not want to start only to find i do not have the right tools etc etc and would have been better off just paying him the money.

Even when I have the plastic sheet i have no knowledge of cutting it or what material to print on.

    Russell.

Printing onto clear would be the thing i would have thought to let the light through!3-4 year quality vinyl should be more than enough
    Have you your own printer?
Would think non-laminated would be okay for indoor stuff as long as you tell your customer not to clean them with anything silly 😮
You can get opal from the supplier cut to size, but any wood working tools will cope with it(jigsaws, drills, radial arm saws, routers etc.)
Try Cox Plastics South East on 020 7232 4919 and they should point you in the right direction :D(hope my geography is up to speed 🙄 )
