  • What are your thoughts on the Ecosol Max 3 inks?

Posted by Gary Birch on December 3, 2015 at 4:09 pm

    Hi all.
I have just placed an order for Ecosol Max 2 inks and didn’t even consider the Max 3s. Has anyone changed over to these yet and what are your thoughts.

    Cheers

    Gary

I looked in to it but you have to change all your cartridges at the same time so us who run 8 colours would have to dump a lot of ink in carts that are not empty yet and getting them all to run very low at the same time is near impossible so for now not too bothered but wouldn’t mind hearing views on those who use it and can compare to Max 2 inks.

I didn’t realise that Warren. Surely that makes it almost impossible for existing users unless you are willing to take a hit on the cost of the ink. I have 2 machines both running Max 2 inks so I probably have more chances of winning the lottery that catching them both at the right time.

How are things? Are you still loving the XR?

    Straight from Roland’s site:

ECO-SOL MAX 3 inks are available in CMYK, Lc, Lm and Lk, and can be combined with ECO-SOL MAX 2 white and metallic.

The way I read that is that the inks are quite happy interacting with each other and not requiring to do them all at the same time. Hey, if CYAN and WHITE are happy together surely MAGENTA and BLACK won’t cause an issue.

I have done no research about this Dave and only had the thought as I saw the ad at the top of the page. Next time I order I will give Roland a call and probably try it on one machine first. Will post the outcome.

We have upgraded our XR640 to the max3 inks about 2 weeks ago colours are more vibrant and dry a little faster we are having problems with Roland’s new profile converter once any profile is converted we are getting a pale yellow background all over where no ink should be. Roland are looking into this issue and trying to resolve it but they have had to contact Roland in Europe for more help.

At the moment we are using the generic profiles which are ok

Lee, did you have to change all inks at the same time as it seems there is contradiction across companies as I was told all have to be switched out at the same time? Quiet a large seller told me this so may have to ask them again to be 100% sure as we were going to change and believe they are cheaper too ???

    Hi Warren

All inks except white or metallic have to be changed at the same time as the updated firmware & versaworks is for the max3 inks and will not recognise the max2 carts.

White and metallic are still only available in max2 and at the moment the conversion is not as easy as it should be and on our machine XR640 needs to be done by an engineer as they have not yet perfected the user conversion process yet.

If your near us your welcome to pop in for a coffee.

Thanks lee, we’re also running the XR 640 but think we’ll wait a while longer until it’s proven 😉

…. but thanks for being a guinea pig for us lol 😉

This has raised it’s head again, anybody else changed over and can offer feedback to whether or not it’s worthwhile doing?

    cheers

Warren, did you get the new inks?

I’m currently low on all my inks so if I was to do it, now is the time.

It also depends on if the dealer will take back unopened inks

We have been running the max3 inks about 3 months now with no issues on either of our XR640’s other than lack of profiles Roland are currently profiling medias and I have been informed the metalmark md5 will be ready next week as their profile converter is causing a pale yellow background. The generic profiles are ok but not great.

Good to hear although we use MD5 mostly 😕 We haven’t switched over but Printmax have said they will take back any unopened carts we have so we’re monitoring closely now and may switch over soon.
