  • what are peoples opinions on FLexi 6.6?

Posted by wildchildc1 on June 12, 2008 at 4:10 am

I have the oportunity to purchase FlexiSign 6.6 for $250.00. I currently use SignLab 5.0, SignBlazer and Corel Draw X3. Ive seen the demo fr the new Flexi 8.5 and it looks awesome but im sure that the new version has quite a few new additions that the older 6.6 does not have??
If anyone has used 6.6 and upgraded to FLexi 8 or 8.5 can you give me your honest opinion on the difference?
If anyone has used SignLab 5.0 and FLexi 6.6 and you give me your opinions please??
Although it appears to be a good deal for a like new full version with oem packaging.. I really dont know if I want to purchase if the Flexi 8 is alot better or if the SignLab I have is pretty close to the same thing??
    THank you!

to be fair i do not have flexi but i did look at the demo years ago.
in the end i opted for signlab and very glad we did. we now have 5 signlabs running our machines. [Signlab 5 rev 12] only used for cut vinyl work, but it is very user freindly.
i have heard many good reports about signlab 8 but i have not used it to give fair comment. like flexisign, you can buy add ons for signlab, [modules]
so you can just keep upgrading as and when needed.
unless i knew of a software that far exceeded what signlab can do i wouldnt look at another vinyl cutting software. not only is it an expence you dont really need, you have the problem of having files saved in a new format so old files can only be opened with the old software. you or your staff also have to be trained to use the new software. all things that should be taken into consideration when switching software.

as i said though, i do not have flexi and it was a long time ago when i had a play with the software, so maybe someone else will give you better feedback mate.

How long have you been using Signlab? If you have lots of saved files and you are used to it then you might find it difficult to switch to something else.

It is an excellent piece of software though and that is a good price. Give me an hour with any Signlab user and I would make them a Flexi convert.

Me thinks not kind sir! 😉

I’ve been a Signlab user for 13+ years – heavily for the last 9. (Ver 2.?, 5.1, 5.7, e6, 7.0) With this much practice…and pressure you end up being able to do things with such speed & efficiency it makes people just stand there slack-jawed as you work.
I did look (like Rob) at Flexi – and have seen it in use at other sign companies, I was not that impressed. OK, it was mainly down to ‘user’ issues as I sat shaking my head at the ‘designer’ faffing around without the first clue as to the power of the program at their disposal…or a basic concept of layouts…

You get good at what you know & use. Given enough time to learn. ie. reduced productivity, I agree – Flexi appeared to have more features (ie. buttons & tabs) than say Signlab 7 for a more ‘artistic flair’…what I’d use of those is another matter!

Hmm. Well I suppose you could come up with a set challenge and see how long it takes to achieve in each software package. Something like importing a van outline, changing the colour, adding a few lines of text with a particular type of shadow, importing a bitmap logo and masking the background etc. I’m sure someone could come up with something that would be a good test.

    Good idea Jon.

Find a Flexi and a Signlab user, and I’ll do it in Illustrator.

Then we’ll look at the cost of each programme and decide on the best value. 😀

I hope you can come up with something a bit more challenging
How about numbering and naming 400 labels?

    Hi All

Now this will be good just what I need to know, Was all ready to go out and buy Signlab 8 Print & Cut, I think I will hold fire and see how this one pans out.

Was given a demo disk of FlexiSign 8.5 at the trade show that most of us went to and can say it was much better than the WinPc Sign Software that I use now. ( Fit for The Bin 👿 )

Go For it Guy’s & Gals (chat.)

    Paul 😉

I think that’s more of a specific thing rather than the sort of work the average user has to do everyday.

    Firstly flexi sign rocks 😀

I will challenge any a day.

    :lol1:

Look, i have never used signlab so i really cant be a judge but i do think it all boils down to what program you learned on.

On another note. I have used flexi 6.5 and 8.5.

8.5 is great but there isnt much that i do on a daily basis that i cant do in 6.5.

Printing is the main thing that 8.5 does, i use flexi as a rip software and it is brilliant.

For design, flexi is great as well. I do think it must have its limitations the same as signlab will when it comes to full colour work. It still is a more of a cut vinyl program. But it does do cutvinyly exceptionally well.

PDF support i think is the biggest difference between the two.

Remember you can upgrade from flexi 6.5 to 8.5 reletively cheaply. so that could be an option. Just make sure who you are buying from is a reliable source and he will change the registered name etc.Be carefull that you are not buying acrackedd version.

For that price i do think you should try it. The other option could be to do a competitive upgrade with them from signlab to flexi. I do know they offer great deals.

Who are you going to buy from??

Just always remember that v 6 is an old package so i dont think you can judge it fairly against newer versions of signlab. Times have changed and technology has advanced extremely.

Have you guys looked at the 8.5 demo by mark rugen for flexi. Worth a look.

Another thing that i like with v8 it the smooth screen edges. Makes for a nicer user experience.
