Just like to say I will be apart of the Graphtec community very soon. Just ordered a new cutter (FC8000) and this will be our first dedicated cutter after the one we started out with bought from China.

It will help us when we have a roll of print and cut to do.

    Cheers Chris.

Seeing we’ve got our XJ we figured we’d tack on a dedicated cutter for print and cut jobs that are longer then a few metres.

I’ve got a few jobs coming up 100 metres of print and cut and I think I would die with the good old Versacamm.

had some trouble calibrating the fc7000 130 to the roland not bad but not as good as on the roland.

you will find the fast mark search handy for repetitive jobs.

What do you mean by calibrating it to the roland?

I thought we just put custom cut marks printed it and cut it on the graphtec.

I’ve got a lot of jobs I need to print take off and laminate and then cut.

depending on software used and how you send the cutpath.
the roland self compensates for the distance traveled when you send the cutpath.
if your rip will drive both the printer and the plotter all should work as the roland.
if using different software to drive the plotter its not so easy.

Doesn’t the graphtec allow you to have like intermediary crop marks it uses to adjust for skew etc?

on the 7000 its 4 marks or at least 2, you set that.

thats why the roland system is so good as it does a lot of adjustments to the cut file you dont know about.

you might want to think about the workflow a bit more.
how were you going to drive it

    Hey Chris,

I was going to use illustrator only for the workflow.

So print from illustrator. Then cut from illustrator.

I mainly want to use this workflow for large runs. Say 20 metres plus of things I need to produce.

I will break this up into smaller areas like 50cm square and just repeat the cuts.

It will be mainly square or rectangular jobs.

i dont think there is a out of the box answer for that.
problem is the distance printed correct then the cut distance has to match, this is done for you on the roland system.

as i said the quick search for marks will be good for this, you tell it how far away the marks should be within 5mm ( it remembers this for the next application ) and it will go straight to them not creep around the print looking for them.

there are so many adjustments in the menu that its easy to get lost.

I will let you know how I get on with it and keep you updated when I received the machine.

Either way it will help our productivity around here.

I’ve used the perf cut in versaworks 3. Works well but I think youd go through your blades rather quickly.

Yes the FC7000 and 8000 allow for intermediate regmarks all aong the length of the job.
You can have 4 in the corners + another set every say 10 inches.

Just got the cutter. Tech comes out tomorrow to set it up. Will let you know how I go with it. This FC8000 series actually has two blade positions so I can die cut right through stickers. If that works Ill be in heaven.

    Hey Mike,

The show was good might have to buy a couple of things.

Update: Cutter is up and running. Menu and software takes some getting used to but I have perf cut working perfectly at the moment and cutting up a few hundred test decals at the moment. Kris will be happy he doesnt have to cut decals individually anymore.

The FC8000 has a groove so the blade can cut without wearing out the blade on the Teflon strip. Great idea.

    Cheers Mike,

I had the ski all ready to go for yesterday after noon. Got a call landed a fairly large job so decided to add the extra cutter. Ordered by 4pm delivered by 4.30pm so I couldn’t ride my ski. It’s all setup now and cutting away.
