I normally weed letters right to left, and numbers left to right. c, r, k, p, r, t, C, E, F, G, K, P, R tend to tear if done the opposite way

Most of the time the two are on the same sheet and it doesnt take that much longer just have to be sure and steady -
more important to explain why its normally done one way, but not set in stone teach them to think about what they are doing, not all plotters are set up 100% not all fonts are created (digitized) correctly TT fonts are the worst all makes a difference.
just depends on how the letters flow may be better to turn it around then whats the best for mirrored stuff if they are thinking about it they will work it out, to be good at something you have to cock it up a few times first.
i have a regular order for 1000 off small ish 5 letter logo best weeded rotated 180 deg
