Love….Jill -
It’s a bit like working without company!!! I felt like a wee lost soul! 😉

Im glad its not just me then, cos I could access this morning but not for the last two hours or so 😥

hi folks…
I can confirm the site did go down for around 2 hours this morning.
The reason was a hack attempt. not a very good one, but one none the less…
i wont bore you all with the details, but basically someone tried to cripple the sites system or wipe its database using some method or another. in doing so the sites server security kicked in, closing the site down completely… until the coast was clear "so to speak." 😀Nothing was penetrated, nothing was lost. this was merely a security feature doing its job.
I apologise for any inconvenience caused by this today. 😀

come on rob tell the truith… u hit the "delete all" button by accident, didn’t u?

… let me revise that…. you tried to delete the "Jokes" folder :lol1: :lol1:

I really wish these hackers would get a life. Cyber Terrorism is just as stupid and moronic as the people that perpetuate it. 👿

sorry, just got home and saw this post… yeah we had a similar experience today as the one we had yesterday and about a month ago around midnight. the systems own security kicks in and shuts down the boards until these people go away.
hacking is just something that comes with the whole Internet thing. i personally have just learned to live with it and make sure i cover my back at every angle. unknown to you all, UKSB gets this sort of thing thrown at it every second day… stops for a few weeks then they have another go… it is common, but nobody actually notices until something like the site closing for a short spell as a result. the site is backed up continually and runs on top end servers. we actually have "two" seperate "Dedicated" servers hosting the boards. if these people ever managed to do any sort of damage to server 1, the site could be back up on server 2 within hours, without any loss of content. in short, they are wasting their time. -

In this case Rob, what happens to server 1, does it repair it self & then take over?

hi john
no, nothing like that mate. the damage is not physical as such, they just want to wipe our database, all content, corrupt files etc basically if something extreme happend, we would use server 2 for about 24hrs, wipe server one and upload the "backup" again, whilst this was happening the boards would carry on as normal on server 2 while this all took place, then we would switch back to server 1.
My sites hosts back the site up daily, i back the database daily, and my web guys have structure template copies too…
so the whole, "lets finish UKSB" from these folk, is a bit over ambitious on their part. -
it’s a wonder you have time to run a business as well!
