Website build and re-vamp

Morning James. Our website was almost identical to create price wise. Hosting/security/purging is about £50 a month. Our designer did exactly what was asked without any fuss at all.

Hi Michael, I’m looking for more online presence and also a more professional look. I don’t need an online store. A lot of companies seem to using wordpress which I thought was a no no? I have experience in creating simple websites myself but I’d rather employ someone to do a proper job.

Our websites are built on wordpress.

Wordpress is widely used, the platform is free, all you need to pay for is the hosting, and probably a theme.

I was tempted to go with someone on People Per Hour, but during lockdown, rebuilt two sites myself.

If it was me, I would be looking to host the site myself, rather than paying a web company to. Should they go bust you’ll still have access to the site, can move it to another host, and even use a different developer if required.

I think if you end up with what you wanted, with their professional opinion taken into account, then that’s probably not a bad price, I think I paid around £14-1600 a couple of years ago for mine, plus £80 a year hosting. the odd £20-50 here and there for updates.

I’m currently at the same stage, I’ve not had a website in a long time but recently started working on a new one.

The thing for me is because I can do this kind of work and better than a lot of dedicated web designers I’ve seen but because I’m putting my name to it, I want it to be 100% perfect and I want that wow factor.

I’ve decided to do away with WordPress etc at the moment and build a straight html page. Customers don’t need to mess about with their website and they could ending screwing everything up in terms of SEO etc.

Fortunately for me, I know how to code and unlike many other that use a program or template so I can do pretty much do anything although I’m more than likely slower than someone who does this full time as I have to keep looking up stuff I’ve forgotten.

Ah gotcha, you want to paying around half that then, WordPress is a pretty simple thing to work with as a website developer so they can knock you up a site without too much graft and you’ll still be left with something that looks the part, ours was done that way. You can also make your own changes easily.

It has no effect on Google either, we’re top or top three for most of our relevant searches and that was just on the back of a hour or two spent punching the keywords in.
