  • Web design templates – are they worthwhile

    Hi

I have purchased Dreamweaver with the intention of building us a website to promote our business. Has anyone purchased templates for this purpose and are they worthwhile.

hi, there is plenty of templates on the net but they are sometimes made up of the sister packages Fireworks and Flash, all three programs are used to create a highly advanced graphic web-site.

So if you do bump into Templates for Webdesign, make sure it is Dreamweaver-style template… thats the eaisest way of saying it

Thanks Dave. So are they worth buying for a first time user?

Templates are ok but sometimes it is much easier to start from scratch. Just remember to keep it simple. The old addage “less is more” has alot to do with web design.

i personally think that if you dont have the knowledge/skill to create a proffessional looking website then a template is the way to go. ide say try for a html template as oppossed to flash as you can alter/persoanalise it much more and easier.
you have to remember that you send your customers to your site, you only get one chance to make a first impresssion… should you sacrifice your company image for the sake of a £50 template?

i use dreamweaver also.. its a good start in the right direction.

So what’s the main difference between an html and a flash site?

HTML is the one of the standard formats for building sites and is easy to work with and easy to modify.

Flash is a vector programming language which can be used to create fantasic animated websites. The downside is that it is quite difficult to work with and is also difficult to update. It also has a very steep learning curve. This is an example of a flash site: http://www.2advanced.com/flashindex.htm

And a pretty good one at that !!
