  • Water to solvent head conversion – advice please?

Posted by Mark A Brown on October 26, 2015 at 4:31 pm

    Hi Guys,

Its cheaper to buy a water based DX4 print head and replace the manifold for a solvent one. Has anyone ever did this I’ve replaced many a manifold on heads now due to nipples snapping while damper changing.

Is there any difference in solvent head from a water head other the the manifold?

Hope some one can shed some light as I need to replace a few heads.

    Hi Kev.

I’ve used digiprint for ages now. But I’ve found a place thats meant to be selling dx4 heads for £270 against £411 from digiprint. Thought it might be worth trying one of their heads.

Probably not Genuine Epson heads if they are that much cheaper, could be wrong but sure I read somewhere that Epson control the pricing of their heads.

It is definitely possible to convert them but I find they never work quite as well once the manifold and gasket have been removed. Personally, I would just swallow the ludicrously cheap price Digiprint sell the print heads for and be done with it. After all, look at how quickly you’ll make the £500 back once it’s running properly.
