• Watch Shop Sign

    Any ideas appreciated.
My quick design is based on a rough sketch the client gave me.
He has asked for the watch and writing to be in Gold on a navy strap on a white board.
Also asked for block shading on the writing to make it appear to stand out.
I couldn’t find a suitable vector image amongst the clip art so I have made up the watch image.

Dimensions of the board are quite restrictive being 3360 wide and only 255 in height.
My image fits his request but think more is possible with the right inspiration!
    Any advice
    Thanks
    Stuart

Looks out of proportion, the strap against the size of the face.
Also what about a proper time movement for the clock / watch face.

I understand the sizes but could the face of the watch not overhang the drop of the sign as shown, this would then look in proportion to the length. Sorry rubbish drawing just to show you what I mean.

Maybe do the strap in foamex, heated it up and give it some wave making it more 3d…
if you know what i mean?

Just an idea but what about a rectangular face.

    Cheers

Yep, it’s out of proportion as originally the strap was too narrow for the text.

Making the watch face overhang the board would be awkward as the sign is to be in a recessed fascia.

Tried a square face and it didn’t look right either but then that could be my poor artist talents.

Thanks for the input so far
    cheers

Eventually did this design and despite the watch face being out of proportion the owner wanted this rather than add extra panel.
He was happy as it contained everything he asked for in the brief and was close to his original sketch.
Only thing I’m not sure of is how long the metallic gold vinyl will last.

Used Metamark Exterior Polished Polyester Gold, Says 5 Years exterior. Best I could find in a polished Gold.

I think it looks good, yes I know you can pick holes in it, that said, what can’t you pick holes in. But lets be fair, It’s a small independent shop, so there is also the price to consider. For what you’d got to work with, you’ve got a great affect without making it unaffordable, it’s ideal balance these days. I believe the customer would have been more than happy with it.
