The BBC do something similar too. Its not available outside the UK (shame) so there shouldnt be a licensing problem.

It’s an in-country question.
Our licensing regulations are that if you have any equipment capable of receiving TV programmes, then you need a licence for those premises. So, the question is, if my iPhone is in my pocket whilst at work, do I need a licence for my office?
Take a look at the tvcatchup site. It’s an internet thing, so you may be able to watch it where you are. 😀

This lot (I’m almost sure) are all available on the individual companies’ websites – bbc iplayer itvplayer 4od etc. It looks like this site has just gathered them all together in one handy place.
As far as I know there is a licensing issue.
You do need a license to watch these channels online, but it is undetectable if you watch without one. I seem to remember hearing/reading that the ISPs are under no obligation to provide TV Licensing with info that could lead to a conviction. (i.e. lists of websites visited by households without a tv license or something like that). But they may one day…

Sorry John, I see what you mean . Licensing has always been a problem in the UK. The other site , tvcatchup is not available out side the UK either…Real shame as German Tv leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to the comedies and re runs of Mr Bean are wearing a bit thin .

i use tvcatchup a bit, but watch your bandwidth if ur on a fair usage policy with your internet provider

The BBC was trying a while ago to bring in a law to force you to buy a licence for iplayer. Not heard anything since so I’d presume it’s been quashed.

The iplayer also links to shows being broadcast at the same time as they are on standard tv, ie if you look at the listings down the side the show actually ‘on now’ is shown as an option to ‘click’ and if you do, you are watching illegally if you do not have a license.

It’s that time of year again, and my TV licence renewal has arrived. 🙁
Thought I’d have a quick look through and it appears that, provided that you do have a licence, you are covered for "Use of TV equipment powered by internal batteries anywhere".
So I can watch TV in my office on my iPhone, or indeed on a laptop, but not a desktop machine.
