Wasatch launch Tracer contour cutting in SoftRIP V6.6

Wasatch SoftRIP Version 6.6 features the all new Wasatch Tracer that allows users to create contour cut paths directly within SoftRIP. Available with the Contour Cutting Option, this innovative tool improves the cutting workflow, simplifies the cutting production process, and gives users complete control over cut path creation.

    Improved Workflow

The Contour Cutting Option in Version 6.6 provides a streamlined cutting workflow so users can spend less time preparing their job and more time printing and cutting it. This improved workflow allows users to select their cutting unit directly from the Print Setup screen. When a cut job is generated, the job is sent directly to the Queues screen where users can quickly and efficiently manage it. With one click, users can print, cancel, delete, or view all the properties for their cut job.

    Simplified Production Process

No matter what production process a user employs, the new Contour Cutting Option available in Version 6.6 will simplify it! Whether users are working with a print-cut device, printing on one device and cutting on another, creating a cut path in SoftRIP, or using a cut path created in a third party graphics application, the new cutting workflow streamlines the process to save users time and hassle.

    Complete Control
The Wasatch Tracer gives SoftRIP users complete control of the cut path creation process. With the ability to change the background color, set a tolerance level, specify a minimum object size, apply a choke or spread to the cut path, exclude interior paths from being traced, and create a wrapper around the image, users can customize a cut path to work for nearly any situation.

Has anyone tried Wasatch software after versions 4.0?
i have Troop v4 i think and its basically a watered down version of Wasatch and also "minus" any contour cutting facilities built in. for us to do a print and cut there is a series of functions needed via Corel/Signlab imported back to Troop and so on… all long winded for my liking though we have been putting up with it. having watched this video it just seems so easy in this new version.

i have had this editorial a few weeks now and only getting round to loading it. i hadnt took the time to look at the videos/story, now i have i am seriously considering moving to Wasatch. so i guess my question is, has anyone used Wasatch or even the re-branded later versions like Troop 5, Color-RIP etc etc any help appreciated as i beleive there is/was a special offer on this so time not on my side. 😕

thanks in advance for any help!

Hi. we have v6.4 – this has the option to rotate your images within the Rip layout also with options of ‘tightest fit’, ‘easy cut’ etc.
Definitely worth the upgrade for this alone for material & time saved.

Rob I use 6.5 on occasion.
the trace facility is not a must for me, images with a white background, I just contour cut in signlab. and export as an eps to wassach.
If you are doing your own design then is easy to add the contour cut at the design stage.

Wassach is easy to use, and has some good features, and you can run up to 4 printers at the same time.

I’m no expert, and I don’t know how wassach compares with other rips apart from signlab,
But I do prefer to use one program when possible to design, print and cut, so Signlab is my choice, others have different preferences.

    Rob,

I started with Troop version 6.3 for my Grenadier, Then at 6.4 I bought the full version and run my Epson 9600 and HP 5500 from the RIP it also run a Graphtec cutter as my Grenadier was the 74" so no built in cut.

Due to some recent changes in the company all my printers are gone and i acquired a Mimaki JV33 and matching CGFX cutter, none of the Rasterlink software would run on my pc’s as they are all 64 bit so i setup my Wasatch 6.5 and it is great, sometimes hard to get profiles as not a common pairing but drives both printer and cutter really well and cuts spot on to the prints.
The problem we had was wasting a lot of time creating cut paths so last week we upgraded to 6.6, have to say best move we have made in a long time, what used to take a long time ie acurate uniform cut paths now takes 10 seconds.

As a rip it is also popular with profilers so i guess it must be one of the better one to write profiles for.
Wasatch are also very helpful, i had a problem on 6.4 with my Graphtec not liking the type 2 marks that wasatch put down, after discussion with Wasatch they added the option of type one marks on the next upgrade.

I recommend it very highly as a good all round rip but the problem is i have not used any other rip so have no means to compare.

Also if you upgrade it regular it is not an expensive rip to maintain, i paid just £150.00 to get 6.6

    Kind regards

    Russell.

thanks a million for the feedback on this, John, Peter & Russell. I will reply again shortly….

more importantly, and completely my fault. i have just noticed that when i have loaded this editorial. i have the contact "e-mail" address wrong. for some reason i have missed the last letter. i have now rectified this but would urge those that have already emailed regarding this, do so again as i doubt very much they would have got it.

very sorry for any inconvenience caused by this.

I’ve changed it now, but should have been the following.
