I am after the old type number plate maker.

More like a press. You place the raised didgets in a holder and the plate is pressed over them To create the raised reg numbers.

Must be complete and in perfect working order. But might except broken/incomplete machine, as I have been offered a unit which has missing items.

I do know you have to be registered, to make road legal plates.

But if you only made show/custom plates that where only for show purposses. Would you still have to be registered. I know you do not require the cars docs in this case.

    Becky

Our reading of this is that a “show” plate is one that says BECKY or FERRARI but if it represents the reg no or could be construed that way, then you need to be licenced and see the docs. This means MC 1 is not allowed unless I have seen the docs.

Registering is not difficult but I’m sure that lots of people haven’t bothered.

    Hope this helps

A show plate is classed as anything that does not meet the enforcement rules for the making of number plates, Charles Wright Font, Registered supplier name & postcode in bottom center of plate approx 15mm x 170mm (software takes care of that to be accurate would need to dig books out) and of course the display of the relevant BSU number. Show plates should not display BSU number and should not be used on the road. The new regs do not actually allow for a suppliers telephone number to be displayed although it is never enforced.

If you are after old style font and a machine then it’s possible that Mike at Europlate birmingham could help. He also has new style font for pressed plates as well.

Not sure of costs, but not cheap so unless you are going to make loads ! try and source “old” equipment. lots of it hanging around unused by “how to find it” is the question. If you are really desperate an ad in Trade auto mag might locate one.

We have a German press – and that does cost loads. The French ones are cheaper but materials are more expensive.
