I’ve never done any lightbox work before but I’ve got my first chance to..

I need someone to supply me with 2 x 2 feet square sheets of 3 or 5mm lightbox perspex (if that is the correct term..). I would like it in a light purple/violet colour – again if it comes like that.

    Can anyone help…. cash waiting….

I would use a clear acrylic and cover it with a purple transluscent vinyl. You can buy a dedicated transluscent vinyl or use 751 series Oracal which is thin enought to light up well on a light box.

you are after a translucent perspex mate… not standard stuff.
just explain that its for a light box.
you would be better buying white or clear like phil said and covering with vinyl. ask if they stock off-cuts first or they will want you to buy a sheet and have it cut. saying that you can get a 6×3 foot sheet.
try amari in glasgow, they are normaly quite good with things like that.. most large suppliers do it though.

    Gav,

I would be wary of covering clear acrylic with vinyl.

Because clear acrylic does not diffuse the light, you can sometimes see the lamps behind the vinyl. It might not be too bad with dark colours but I would do some tests before commiting yourself.

Opal acrylic would be my suggestion covered in a translucent vinyl 😆

    hi glenn
your quite right about sometimes seeing the lamps behind the vinyl if applied to clear. but if he is using normal purple vinyl and not translucent then it may also be too dark..
depending on the off-cuts gav can get his hands on, he may not have great deal of choice on clear or opal.
if clear is all he can get then it maybe better going for normal vinyl. if its translucent perspex then translucent vinyl is best.

    translucent – opal… same thing 😉
