Well this was an eye opener….Very last minuit really but my wife decided to take all our old kids toys to a car boot sale last Sunday and she asked if she could borrow my work truck to do it with.
I said no problem, and then in a flash of inspiration on the Saturday before she went, as I was loading up for her at my unit, I saw some old signs I had made advertising our services, so I popped them on with some safety signs and a few printed tshirts and a couple of wheel covers and asked here to lean them against the van when she was selling her stuff.
of course, the van is signed up and she had a stack of my cards on her which she gave out with gay abandon.
lol she was there for 6 hours not to mention the couple of days spent getting it all together and marking up the prices with the labels i had made her (all with my company details on) and what did she get?….. £30 poxing quid for nearly 3 days work…. I laughed my a*se of first and thought about the irony of it, I said she would have been better off spending a few hours on the phone calling potential customers it would have been more profitable for us. But she had a good time anyway as I took the kids of here hands for the day.
Guess what?
So far this week I have had 11 phone calls from people who saw our van sign and took a leaflet. I have already invoiced £1200 worth of work from it and still quoting on another £700…….
Now, that was brilliant, I have picked up some odd jobs but fun ones, for example I got asked to restore 10 old 1940’s petrol pump faces (we do restoration of old signs too, but we weren’t advertising that on the day) and picked up some tractor signs, along with a few hundred labels and 3 wheel covers…. so all in all, it was very worthwhile. Needless to say, i’m paying her £30 myself this week to go and sell nothing at another boot sale….lol
