I’m going to have a crack at a mural for my little girls room, i was wondering if anyone on the boards has had a go at this. I seem to remember Hexis sell wallpaper media, can anyone give advice on this subject?

hexis do several papers…but mat vinyl may be better, cheaper, and easier to apply, wallpapers are subject to stretch when paste is applied,
so unless you specialise, better just use what you have in stock…

I see your point Peter, i was just a bit worried that the vinyl might rip the plaster off the walls when removed.

AS A PAINTER & DECORATOR I WOULD SUGGEST THAT WHEN YOU DO COME TO REDECORATE AT SOME FUTURE DATE, SIMPLY HANG A LININGPAPER OVER THE MURAL AND THEN PROCEED AS NORMAL.

Barry would it not be better to put a lining paper up first before the mural ,I am not a decorator, but if the mural needed to be removed would it not come off better if it was on lining paper (?) just a thought haven’t tried it so as I said just a thought 🙄

    YES, PETER,
NOT THINKING TOO STRAIGHT–IT IS PROBABLY DUE TO ALL THE RAIN HERE IN THE WEST OF IRELAND SOFTENING MY LITTLE BRAIN.IT WOULD BE ADVISABLE TO SEAL THE LININGPAPER TO ALLOW A WET FITTING OF THE VINYL.
TO REMOVE AT SOME TIME IN THE FUTURE, SCORING THE SURFACE WITH A BLADE TO ALLOW A MIX OF WARM WATER/WASH-UP LIQUID TO PENETRATE AND SOFTEN THE LININGPAPER, WILL MAKE FOR EASY REMOVAL.

fitting the vinyl wet on walls? 😕 i wouldnt think that would work…
if printing in vinyl ide laminate it also… that way she can get handy with her pens on the walls or paint from her hands and you just wiped down clean. 😀

Rob…. what i’m thinking of doing is lining the walls, then applying dry to the lining paper (laminated of course).
I’m doing the mural to cover her pen marks on the wall!!!!

Still unsure about doing it thisway , i’m tempted to have a go at printing on the wallpaper media and getting a mate of mine who is extremely talented at decorating to hang it, who knows it might open up a whole new market for me with the posh kids around here!!

All Print Supplies sell a matt wall paper for solvent printing and they recommend that it be varnished after printing. I think its quite thick so it’d be quite easy to hang – minimal stretch.
