    Hi All

    What wall decal vinyl’s would anyone recommend, I currently use Dtec Walltak Woven 335mic which is a really nice vinyl to work with, but expensive so I was looking for a cheaper alternative to add as a different option for potential customers not wanting to spend that much.

    Many thanks

    Dtec, from what I know is just a rebrand of a range of different types of vinyl.
    I am not knocking the brand/range as I don’t use it. but there will be other possibly more cost-effective options out there.

    What you need to be careful with is that you are not allowing your customers to influence you on what the best price is for your product. If I am looking for a better-priced material, It is to help increase my own profit rather than to lower my price to suit the customer. even then, I want a like-for-like product.

    Do not get me wrong. If you want to offer a “budget” wall-covering range that is cheap and cheerful. then that is fine too if it is off the shelf clipart or designs that do not include artwork setup. because what you need to understand is…

    3m x 3m wall Print.
    * Deal with customers and understand what they want.
    * Design time.

    * Revised artwork time.
    * Machine load and software setup
    * Print time.
    * Trimming and prepping.
    * Hand over to the customer.

    No matter what media you are using, nothing changes. the same amount of work is involved.

    these are very “Rough” examples:

    Roll of Print Material – £200: 50-metre
    Price per linear metre – £4
    Total print material Cost – £27
    Wall Print at £30sqm = £270
    Profit: £243

    Even if you swap your media for one at £150: 50-metre

    Price per linear metre – £3
    Total print material Cost – £18
    Wall Print at £30sqm = £270
    Profit: £252

    You have a difference of only £11

    is this difference really going to change the volume of potential future sales?
    switching media for one 25% cheaper could be an inferior product and cost you long term!

    Would it even be worth stocking both a budget and premium for this small saving? For me personally, no! but if you are talking high volumes of print runs, then yes. but that’s where the individual must decide what’s best for them?

    I stick with a quality film I know and if I really want a sale from a customer wanting a discount, then I decide then and there and “I take the hit” in profit that one time. rather than restructuring pricing and changing vinyl.

    All that said, we are in a difficult time just now because suppliers are ALL putting their prices up continually due to covid and shipping costs etc. and as its January, new year… means new prices! as lots of suppliers tend to show their new price increases during this month. the joys!
    so before considering dropping prices to suit customers, I would suggest looking to increase prices to help you stay in business.

    i think most of the main suppliers offer wallpaper and other options for this type of thing. try Metamark, William Smith, Spandex and Vink.
