    Hi All
I’m about to refurbish the wheels on my own car.
I’ll strip, prep and paint them and the final finish would be clear coat.
I would like to do a red ‘pin stripe’ around the perimeter and also a decal on each wheel.

No1 is this a good idea in vinyl

    and

No 2 if it is a good idea I would appreciate some advice on the best vinyl to use to give a decent life span.

    Thanks in anticipation

only vinyl capable would be truck vinyl and i doubt that would do the trick on tyres.
your best option would be to create a stencil and using sericol or appollo inks or whatever screen printing inks for that matter… ink in the stencil by hand and remove. the ink dries in about a minute.

personally, you would probably be better getting a traditional signwriter / pinstriper to ink it on free-hand. ive seen them do some amazing work freehand in person. amazing control over the brush, saves all the faffing about if you dont have inks at hand.

you speed reading again, he wants to put vinyl on the steel rim. I do agree though that having them done by brush would look a lot better especially if it is anything vintage. Terry Bull of the boards works from my workshop & to see some of the pin striping etc he does makes me wish i had that talent.

any good 5-7 vinyl or cast vinyl will do the job

    Thanks Rob and Kev.
Not exactly vintage – Its a 21 year old Mazda MX5 (eunos jap import, best car I have ever owned!) ‘Came of age’ Jan 2011 . Pin stripe probably was not the right description. I just want a 5mm / 8 mm coloured rim around the circumference on the ally wheels once I’ve painted them. Probably going to paint them ‘off white’ with red rims to match the car colour.
Not sure if I should paint them, stick on the vinyl stripes and decals then clear coat or clear coat then apply the vinyl. Thinking about it I’ll probably stick the vinyl on top of the clear coat, that way when, and if, they fail I can strip and re-do the vinyl a lot easier.
    Thanks for your input.
    Regards
    Mike

    Vinyl on car wheels

its doesnt state what part though does it?

could be a picture of vinyl on car wheels he is showing us all?
could be a question about vinyl on car wheels?
Could have driven over some dropped vinyl from a fitting and cant get the vinyl off his car wheels for love nor money?

you never know, you just never know… 😉

more descriptive, "descriptive" it helps clowns like me that dont read between the lines. 😀

I remember seeing white mini wheels years ago with a pinstrip around in red and blue – not sure if these were standard or homemade.
