    Hi Everyone,

I could do with a bit of advice on making cut vinyl graphics/ lettering stick to the side of customers box trailer?.

The trailer panels appear to be made of a type of PVC plastic sheet which has a very slight orange peel texture to it, after do the usual prep before application i then apply the graphics which go on, but easily peel off with your fingers even after leaving them for 24hrs.

I was advised to try a primer (3M Primer 94) which you apply to the pvc panels to help with adhesion, but after applying a test coat on one corner of the trailer the results of applying the graphics where the same.

The trailer has evidence of a trailer makers logo that has been on before which i assum stuck ok?

In the 25+years of signs making I’ve never come across this problem before.

Vinyl used is a 5 to 7 year which i’ve had no problems with before.

I look forward to any helpfull advice that anybody can give me.

    Thanks

Flame treat the surface with a plumbers torch. Quickly pass a very hot open flame over it. obviously not enough to melt or disfigure it, just a quick pass. Then clean it again with iso. then apply the vinyl within a couple of hours.

Try it on a hidden section first 😉

hard to tell from a photo, but I would imagine a low-energy surface vinyl will be needed.
Which basically has a high tack. It is often used on the likes of motorbike mudguards and difficult to stick to surfaces.
Most suppliers will have low-energy surface vinyl in different grades of vinyl. So prices can vary.
This is also normally only in white digital vinyl, so you may have to buy in fixed increments like 10m – 25 and 50m rolls.
I know Spandex also does this vinyl in colours, so you can just cut the graphics. But I think someone said on here that it was being discontinued, so you may be limited in colour options etc if they are exhausting the stock. worth a try anyway.

Has it been ceramic coated? I have had this before on a trailer that was machine polished and then ‘treated’, turned out it had been ceramic coated, which will need machine polishing again.
