  • Vinyl Application, Mounting Table, advice please?

Posted by Dan Osterbery on December 1, 2016 at 5:42 pm

    Hello All,
I would love to hear from anyone who has a Rollover, a Rolls Roller or a signmaster table! Being watching the videos and they all look like awesome bits of kit. I am sure it is the sort of machinery that will be used everyday, and will soon earn its money back.

    thanks in advance

I have the Rollsroller with the 5.5m long bed.
Had it a good number of years now and would not be without it.
One man can flood coat 10ft x 5ft panels in a minute, very easily and perfectly.

I bought ours when prices were sky high and really only the Rollsroller was on the market as they were the originators of the application tables. They now have a series of different models and features which makes them much more competitive. I sourced ours from William Smiths and was delivered, installed and trained on very quickly. Support on the machine has been brilliant too, though in all the years we only have had a couple of problems and those we did have were user faults, and we were back up in running in within an hour or so. http://www.williamsmith.co.uk

buy as big as you can afford, not just what you need. trust me, once its in the door you will wish you had opted for a larger model/bed size.

The only thing that i like that some others have is the absence of the gantry on the roller. however, it is no big deal at all. do not let that over rule a decision as you really forget its actually there.
Also, i have heard of applicator tables that have twisted the gantry due to the lack of the over head beam because of constant pulling back and forward and on machines with lighter built frames, less robust than the likes of the rollsroller.

that said, i have seen some slicker looking style tables with nice additions, but all these options are normally bolt-ons that drive price back up or are additions to perhaps make up for flimsier built tables. i dont know as i have not seen anymore than about 5 in person and there has to be about 10 these days doing the rounds.

i would say test them in person if you can. yank them back and forward, check the pressure the roller can apply up to, the warranty you get on the table and on the small compressors. power required etc.

cant think of much more off hand, but will add to if i remember more. :smiles:

    get it!!!

5 years ago before I employed my first person I bought a Rapid Applicator from Paper Links (Europoint before that) prices were on par with the Rolls Roller but opted for the Rapid Applicator because as Rob mentioned it didn’t have the gantry across the bed and the glass came in 2 pieces so if you did accidentally break it then you only have to fork out for half the glass 😉 It comes with a bar across the gantry that is for holding rolls for easy flood coating etc or app taping graphics, we hardly use it as we have a spare laminater for app tape but you can see it in the picture.

after 5 years it hasn’t missed a beat, gets worked all day every day by 3 or 4 people, hasn’t twisted or skewed or anything but this one is a beast at nearly a ton in weight and solid as a container ship 😆

All that said I don’t think you can buy these ones any more but as long as you buy a good quality one it will make life so much easier in efficiency and quality, training takes 2 minutes with a totally inexperienced person to start laying 10×5 sheets perfectly.

If I had the space I would get a 2nd one, WHEN I have the space I will get a 2nd one, ours is just short of 5m but it has extendable arms to support longer panels etc but have only used them about 2 or 3 times in the last 5 years.

We recently wrapped it so looks a bit different but they are brilliant.

    Cheers

    Warren

The manufacturers of the RollsRoller now have another model in their collection, the Roll-X. This has been made in response to the industry requesting a model without the top gantry.
I’ve not seen much of it but it but in all honesty if Göran has invented it then I fully trust it [emoji106]

    Hi Dan,

You’ll never look back once you have one and you will kick yourself that you never done it before. We have one big enough to do 10×5 panels with ease so not as big as Rob’s but it saves so much time. Don’t forget that they are also very good for taping up and laminating. (Our roll to roll has been a bit neglected lately)

We got ours from Omar at Mounters Mate and the service has been brilliant since day one, Give him a call for a quote as he’s always more than happy to help.

Thanks David, just sent him an email. Would like to look at all of the available tables and then see which one suits us. Hadn’t spotted that one online so grateful!

I bought a roll-to-roll laminator from Omar, really nice guy and had us up in running in no time.

No problem at all Dan, I’m not sure if omar (or all others) include a cutting mat for the top of the glass but make sure you get one as it makes life much easier and any excess app tape doesn’t stick to it as harsh as it does the glass.

    Ours is a Rhino matt.

What kind of height do these sit at, and can they double up as a bench?

My biggest hate in this industry is trying to flood coat a large panel on my todd!! Not so bad with air release prints but straight vinyl can be a nightmare!!

My current bench is 3.5 x 1.8 so I have room (just) for one, but I do still need a big bench for weeding large contour cut jobs or trimming prints etc!

    Thanks Dan,
It’s certainly on my list as far as future invesments go, haven’t long upgraded to wide format latex/lam/cutter so once the cashflow smooths out again I’ll be in the market for something like this, can only be a good thing!

I’d love one, but then we’d loose our keencut board cutter.
