Views on the Roland XR-640
Posted by James Boden on June 12, 2017 at 8:35 amHi Guys,
May be purchasing a XR-640.
Just wondered if anyone has some first hand experience with one of these or any opinions to share?James Boden replied 6 years, 10 months ago 4 Members · 6 Replies -

I’ve worked on a few of them and they’re pretty good. Proper fast!!

We’ve had a couple of 640’s. 1st was an absolute disaster, was bought brand new and was faulty from day 1. Destroyed a fortunes worth of material. Couldn’t cut accurately even with 40mm of bleed around the text. Finally got it replaced and thankfully the second one was great. Had a few problems with error messages which got resolved when I believe what is known as a new "scan motor" was fitted. Changed it now to a separate printer and cutter which is great as one can print while the other cuts. Allows for an uninterrupted work flow

We have 2. Both serviced annually and have missed a beat.(Touching wood) and would have no issue in recommending them or indeed buying another.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Just out of interest Gary, what ink configuration are you running on those? Do you have white & metallic on either?

We started off with one of each but as we didn’t have the call for it the white and metallic just ended up being expensive cleaning cartridges so we just took the decision to stop with both.

Thanks for the reply Gary. This is what I was thinking, don’t have much call for metallic here either. Cheers.
