VIeAGRA etc
Posted by Lorraine Clinch on July 27, 2006 at 11:56 amHow the hell can I stop all these crappy emails coming through?
I keep adding to the message rules, but these people simply change the spellings, and back they come.
One week away, and I just deleted 600 emails, all for viagra, rolex watches and advertising my website!
I’m sick of it, and of the worry of accidentally deleting an important message, or of importing a virus (hot) 👿Ok, rant over. I’m 😎

Hi Lorraine,
Try installing something like "Mail Washer Pro" or a recent version of Norton Anttvirus….I think that comes with antispam….
These programs check your mail and filter out the majority of spam, then you just add other mails to the spam folder.
I use Mozilla Thunderbird which has antispam built in if I remember correctly….or maybe I installed a plugin?! Anyway, Mozilla Thunderbird is free and comes from HERE

Yep i’ve been getting loads of these, and each time it has been sent from a different e-mail address.

I get about 44 emails a day usually about Viagra single dates, free software and animal sgahhing all from different email address’s and usually with a legit sounding subject line. used up all my blocked email address so just gave up and spend time combing through the damm things

I use Mailwasher…
There is a free version, but I use the Pro version. Don’t think it costs very much & is well worth it.

Lorraine I use Spam Fighter at work. They have a free version, although I use the paid version.
Basically they have a database of known spam. It checks your mail against the databse and deletes it if they find a match.
If some get through that are not on their database, when you quarrantine it in the spamfighter folder, it updates their database with the spam address.
I’m not sure of the numbers, but when a % of the spamfighter members ‘tag’ the same email, the database then considers it spam, and will add it to their spam database, and thus it will be deleted next time.
It really is an excellent product.
I use inboxer at home, which I had purchased before I found spamfighter, and when my inboxer subscription expires, I’ll be changing over to spamfighter here too.
The free download is here http://www.spamfighter.com/Product_Info.asp

I can’t remember the last time a bit of spam got into my in box. Brilliant.

Sorry, i’ll stop sending them
😮 🙂 :lol1: 😀
I use norton and it seems to be quite good at spotting the junk and deleting them.
Cheers John

Tell the rules to look in the body of the message for words not the address or header and you will have much more success

Yer goop, but they have cottoned on to that now and just send the ad as a jpeg so you cant single out the words, so it would appear (hot)

Well, I downloaded Mozilla as per Adams recommendation, but couldn’t get it to send emails, also it looks completely different to OE (old dog new tricks etc!) so deleted that, downloaded Shanes Spamfighter, and that just sits quietly in OE. Came in this am, got emails, 50 in spam folder, 30 auto deleted, 4 for me in the inbox!
Cheers Shane, works a treat!

always always have a little squint in your junk/spam box in case a legit email has slipped in there you never know it could me the million dollar job!!! 😮

Hi George, you are right there, there have been some legit emails dumped, usually UKSB ones, funnily enough! 😀

Glad you think so Lorraine. I told all my clients about it, and a lot have changed over too.
I hate spammers. I see the other day that a group of spammers… or should I say Internet Marketers… are taking a few anti spamming companies to court citing restriction of trade.
The argue it is akin to stealing the mail out of your letter box.
sheesh. These guys have no morals at all.
