  • VersaCamm Sp540V Print and Cut problem

Posted by Jason Xuereb on January 13, 2008 at 8:31 am

I have printed off some stickers. I laminated them. I insert the media back into the printer. It registers the crop marks and starts cutting. Problem is the cut lines are approx 1cm off to the right.

The cut lines in the preview of versaworks are in the right spot.

    My offset is .25mm

    Any advice appreciated.

I may be completely off the mark (no pun intended) but did you put the media back in the printer the same way round?
    Peter

I use a separate plotter but made this mistake once!

Hey Peter. Media is in the same way.

I’ve got alot of different shapes etc.

Say its cutting a circle that’s printed the circle cut is roughly 1cm to the right.

I’m not quite sure why its doing this. The optical registration goes through fine.

jason they will go off once in a while.
    first enviroment check and recheck.

there are two different adjustments to the print and cut distance.
print then cut adjustment is in the normal menu.
crop marks to cut is in the service menu.

maybe twice a year mine needs re calibrating.

just realized you said 1cm thats a long long way off. when i say out of calibration i mean 1mm.

have you had a head strike. or power supply problems

Nope no problems at all. If I run a print and cut it works fine. Its only when trying to do the optical registration its 1cm to the right.

    offset is .25mm in versaworks.

Nick: I did this same procedure three days ago. It happened to me on one of the prints. I resaved the artwork added it versaworks again and re ripped it and it fixed it. I had no problems with 5 of the other files.

I’m using illustrator to add my cut lines to the artwork.

I know it shouldn`t make any difference, but if you have adjusted the outside rollers and change the media width between printing and cutting i can cause this to happen. I had the same problem once. Now I try not to make any adjustments between the operations.

Could be worth a try anyway.

    Cheers

Found this on the Roland site….

"After printing with "Center on the Media" and with Crop Marks, you remove this printed media once. Even if the printer detects their Crop Marks to start cutting, printing and cutting do not match. (Only for Print&Cut machines.)
Workaround "Center on the Media" is to centerize the printing to the media width, that is detected by the positions of the pinch rollers. If their positions are changed, since the media width is also changed, printing and cutting do not match.
After reloading the media, perform cutting without "Get Media Width", or perform both printing and cutting without "Center on the Media."

    Thanks guys.

I did change the pinch rollers. I had to print something in between.

It is cutting at the moment with the centre on media box checked.

I will uncheck it and try it again.

ah ha. colourrip does it hard left so this cant happen, and altering the pinch rollers has no effect. so would never have thought of that

you can still center it, just remember not to get media width in versaworks when you put it back in to cut.

    Just got back.

Tried it without getting media width. It’s all off.

I tried it centred not centred.

I tried another file and same problem.

Looks like I’ll have to reprint relaminate.

Haven’t done an update in a couple of months. I’m still waiting for the Internet in the factory then I’ll be able to check.

Mental note for next time don’t centre the media.

    jason
    to prove the system
clean bit of scrap vinyl put in and setup
print and cut with crop marks a 25mm black square with cut path.
it should cut the edge of the square correctly.
do not remove but run set up again.
tell it to find the crop marks and cut the box only lighter pressure, it should cut over the first cut. else the calibration is out.

Had no luck. I reprinted without centre on media and I’m fine now. I also have the latest versaworks update. Also have the net in here finally.
