    Hi all,
I recently printed 3cm labels in high quality 1440dpi and was really surprised. I wrote down the ink usage before and after the prints and the machine used in total 109ml of ink (it was a 2 color vector). It does print beatifull at that quality but eats up ink. I tried using lower quality but all colors were not rich.
My question is to anyone with more knowledge of the Colorip software, do you think one can play with the settings in there on standard quality and get similar results ?
    Thanks
    Iosif

I was wondering why printing at 1400dpi uses significantly more ink?

Surely the dots are half the size with double the number of them, thus using around the same amount of ink.

Have you measured the usage at 720 dpi for the same job?

    Hello Iosif,

Just to clarify – how many metres of vinyl did you print and at what what spacing were the labels?

I’m guessing between 45m and 70m of vinyl used with a 3mm maybe 5mm spacing.

This is the amount of ink I’d expect to use on such a job, this does not include head cleaning etc. but 109ml of ink is a lot to use for few labels.

If you need any help on profiles etc. please don’t hesitate to ask.

    Regards,
    Mark

i printed 5 metres. The labels had 2mm spacing between them.
    I’ d say it was 90-95% coverage.

At 1440 dpi , the worst you can expect is about 18-20ml per sq meter. High ink coverage , dark colours etc It does use a little more ink at 1440 vs other modes , but the spread tween low rez and high is about 25%.
What the machine reports is not at all accurate and can be out a LOT, however your usage is in the ball park if you did print 5 sq meters.
Ink useage depends on media (most profiles will load the media with the max ink it can hold without puddling) , resolution etc but a good average to work on is 12-15ml per sq meter.
