  • Velcro for external use on banner

Posted by Daniel Evans on September 12, 2018 at 8:18 am

    Morning everyone

I’ve just had a request for some banners and they want to attach them using Velcro along the top, they’re only gonna be roughly 30 cm high but 3m long.

This seems easy enough to do but just worrying about the velcro sticking to the banner, I use tape and not stitching and I’m also not sure whether there is an external and internal velcro.

Has anyone done this before or can suggest how to do it?

Personally, I’m thinking tape the banner as usual, then use an extra bit of banner tape to attach the velcro to the banner and eyelet it as normal so the eyelets go through the banner and velcro, thoughts?

3M dual lock Velcro has VHB adhesive – worked for us running around the edge of an 8×4 banner for indoor use.

As colin says, 3M dual lock will do the job of holding the banner well…

As the banners are small, velcro should hold them too, but your mentioning outside use?
If outside, and only fastened along the top like you say, ide pray for no wind!

No matter what type of velcro you use… my concern would be more on, "what wall surface velcro sticking to??"
The tape on the velcro will have to bond to possibly a rough textured wall, plaster or whatever. the other side to the banner. the banner should be fine, the velcro connection should be fine. but the bond of the velcro to the wall is iffy!
now if this is external use, the wind will quickly lift the flapping banner and snap it away from the surface, velcro too…

if these are internal banners. I would skip the velcro and get some foam stick tape. Oracal do it and can be bought from http://www.europoint.co

As we all know banner edges pucker when rolled, the Velcro will too. We have a sewing section for another product so we just sew them. Done many for market traders etc.

I would recommend talking to a local upholsters and get them to do it. It’s another cost to you, but pass it on to the customer, now, rather than having to redo later down the line

Having said that industrial sewing machines can be picked up very cheap
