This is our first attempt at wrapping.

There were needed in a hurry so, other than the wavy newspaper pages on the sides, there is no printing. The blue was applied to the car and the black spotty bits were put on as a second layer.

Having inspected other wraps I think the quality was acceptable although I know that, by applying what we learned, we can do a lot better next time, especially if we are allowed a reasonable time scale to do them in.

Good one John. The blue part certainly looks pretty challenging.

How long did your lads take to do these? About 3 minutes each? 😉

    Regrettably not Andy. 🙁

The first one took them a whole day, but they had cut that in half by the time they did the last one. Hopefully with more practice they will get quicker.

Looking at the prices some of our competitors are charging we need to get a complete wrap, except for roof, but going above the gutters, on a short Transit down to the two lads for half a day region if we want to compete in that market. Maybe not on one-offs, but certainly if there is even a small volume.

It seems to me that, even with a fairly new process like wrapping, there are those out there who cannot wait to devalue their skills.

nice work john, well done… not an easy looking fitting.

Thanks for your kind words Robert and Carrie.

We used KPMF. We had three days to do the job and wanted to get started as soon as possible as I could see that, to allow for learning, we needed as much time as we could get. I didn’t have any swatches and although the customer would take what colour we could get in time I naturally wanted to be as close as possible. The girls at KPMF were brilliant at trying to describe their colours to me over the phone and so helpful. We got it sorted out and I ordered at 4pm that day and the delivery driver got me out of bed the next morning with a phone call asking how early he could make the delivery. We were ready to start work when the staff arrived at 8.30.

We have little experience in wrapping and don’t know if there is a better material than KPMF but if there is not much to choose between them then we will stay with KPMF purely on their service level.

I know you like MacFleet but my boys don’t because they have difficulty in getting as good a finish as they can with alternatives. I once told them that the wrapping guru from Scotland swore by MacFleet so they took me out into the fitting bay and applied a bit of MacFleet and a bit of Avery 900 side by side on a flat panel in exactly the same way. The finish of the Avery was much smoother and better so, for me, that was it. If they are happier using something else other than MacFleet then that’s the way it will have to be.

In the end the CityAM job cost me three hours overtime to get the cars out on time but the customer was pleased. And so, to be honest, was I! 😀
