Here is my very first go at any sort of a wrap or large print onto a vehicle, the logo is the same as the monolith from last week. It has taken one day to clean ( by the book ) with the same day starting the printing on a 30" versacamm and another 4 days to fit, and not even having time for an easter egg. Oracal 3951G and Oraguard 290 laminate using the ezy-taper. Do not let the photo’s fool you along with the design they carry the applied work, the rear bumper was the hardest and the rear number plate also saved my life. I started with the bonnet, it took me a full day to apply. it has 3 vertical layers because of my print width and I found getting the overlaps into place and appying at the same time very difficult. appying heat at the right time was also a case of hit and miss due to lack of experience. Don’t get me wrong I am over the moon with the finished result and so is my customer but the mistakes that are present niggle me.

I am going in now to have a full bottle of red wine all to myself.

i think you should be very proud of that mate… looks very smart. 😀

too many people thinking wrapping is easy…
too many people claim to be able to wrap.
if you wrap the same vehicle time and time again then yeh, it can be quickly done as practice makes perfect. however, every vehicle has different contours, recesses etc all there to try us… how you go about manipulating the vinyl to get it just right is were expertise comes in.
the only way to do it is to give it a go… its all trial and error, unless you can get a pro to show you or go on a course. me… i learn the hard way 😕

good for you russ… and thank you for taking the time to show us your work mate.

I reckon you have done a brilliant job Russ, shame you only have a 30" printer, causes you more work stitching it all together doesn’t it.

    Russ, well done mate.
Just a tip with tiling, I find it easier to put the panels together, before application, that way there is not a problem with any stretching that may happen. I only have 12" to play with and I do it often.

    That’s excellent Russ.

If I do as well on my first wrap I’ll be chuffed to bits.

I know what you mean about the things other people don’t see but you know they are there. Annoying being a perfectionist eh?

    Cheers,

    Simon.

Um…how do you put panels together before you apply them? It sounds like a good idea to me.

Many thanks for your comments, my van is next it’s been on the long finger now for well over a year, media from O’Sullivans Dublin.
Good point about the tiling Peter, funny enough I looked at the possibility of how I could make the join without picking up unwanted dust etc as the sheets are quite big. Getting an area clean was not the problem I needed a big square area to get the bonnet as one, I agree it would have made things a bit easier and given me more room to be able to manage the application. On the same hand I found some small bits more than a hand full, maybe doing the join over a piece of silicone paper might help any tips here Peter will be greatly appreciated. I will be booking myself onto a wrapping course asap, who is doing the best course and at the right price can anyone help with advice on where to go.

As said I only have 12"
a gerber. so I often join the tiles before appliyng. I cant see a reason to to this with 48"+ but for 30" it may be advantageous.
With your cadet, after printing, I presume you laminate and then either cut out the tiles manually or with the plotter.
the tile that is to overlay is cut to the print, so you have a clean edge,
overlay it onto the next tile, and "tack" in place with app tape.

Depending on the substrata shape, you can then either apply app tape to the whole print, or just to to a few inches each side of the overlap.
Then when you apply, hinge below the overlap, remove the backing and apply, the overlap will then stick to the "underlap". then apply the bottom part of the hinge.

I meant to take some pictures of a van I did today, (the different stages) using this method, pictures are better than words. so if you dont understand my explanation, say so and I will do some pics.

Hey Brian I had a bit of a brain wave last night, does not happen often. At shows like sign uk they print out yards of media all day mostly on good material although it might not be premium cast it will still be good stuff to show of their machine out-puts, as far as I know they just bin it at the end of ther day. Why not see if you can get your hands on as much as possible and have a go at applying it to a vehicle that might be knocking about at least this way you can get a feel for it.

Not much point in telling you that i have recently come back from a 3 day wrapping course at Watford, as you really need one nearer to home.
    Well worth going though.
