what make of software do you use for vehicle outlines.
i’ve got mr-clipart cars and truck and although quite good, it seems to be more for the european market, ie: most vans have to be mirrored.

the software that seems to be favourite is the one used for designs that are uploaded onto this site.

can anyone tell me what it is? as i think i am due a change.

    Tony,

I think its a great idea to use Brians CD set, none of them are “complete” as they all cater for slightly different markets, I bought the Digital Auto library in 93, then Cadlinks V3, 4 and 5 and the Impacts CD’s since V5, as well as Mr Clipart, I think they all compliment each other.

Am I missing something here, are there so many differences between left and right?? We only ever use them as a guide for a customer and never prep any work until we have seen the real thing or on the day of the job. I think there are so many variables like options for sliding doors on both sides or hinged or none at all, all of which are not neccessarily addressed in outline collections.

Some trucks used to have a lower quarter light on the left side than the right, or vice vers for lhd, but most of the time here we find things pretty similar left to right, often asking the customer if the van has sliding doors and on which side.

I think its a great idea to help sell a layout or job but thats as far as we use it, and do the same today with digital pictures and photoshop, a line drawing can never pretend to illustrate accurately the curves in a vehicles bodywork.

good point. i think your right henry, these outlines should only be used as reference & not gosplel. having said that, we do use them day to day without checking the sizes. i know thats setting ourself for a list of problems. funny enough we have been lucky so far.. not always but we dont really get much headaches other than the odd badge were we dont expect it…

maybe the impact disk is a little more accurate than some others, or maybe my luck is just in on this one..

if we are putting a panel on the van we always give plenty overlap and trim back.
if we are putting text on a panel we try keep it back from the edge enough, that if the panel was slightly out it would still fit. 😉

We scale the Impact drawings and very rarely come unstuck.

Part of it is that we always need some space between the end of the text and the edge of the panel so there is a bit of leeway.

The main thing is experience. We know where the bad curves and the difficult bits are on most vehicles and can allow for them, although I should emphasise that we are normally dealing with panel vans and I wouldn’t try it on a truck.

Badges are no problem. If they are in the way we take them off. We’ve got boxes of the damned things and every now and again have a tidy up and bin the lot. We’ve tried recycling them through local dealers but they don’t want to know.

thought I was the only one although I just sling em straight away 😆 but be careful with Nissan’s the buggers sometimes have pins to position them and you can be left with flippin ‘oles 😳 😆

Right then Rob that’s a fiver for you….then a fiver for Mark, Henry & John. Please close the thread now beacuse if Tony does by our disk I may end up out of pocket! 😆 😆

Seriously Tony I “think” our is the only library designed for the UK market. There are a few out there with different names that are all M.R cliparts outlines. There are a few differences between ours & theres apart from the sliding doors. All the vehicles are full scale so you don’t need to size them up, Vauxhall’s are not Opels, manufactueres often also have different model names in Europe, for example a Citroen Relay here is a Citroen Jumper elsewhere, in addition I think we have quite a few vehicles that are common here but not in the rest of Europe.

If you want to try ours look on our website & download the free samples.
