Vehicle Graphics : DVI
Posted by popcornpro on December 9, 2003 at 8:57 pmI don’t really consider myself a signmaker… but I am trying to learn. I have attached my first vehicle project for your inspection. Took me ages to apply but was pretty chuffed by the end.

P.S. My customer said I could only ‘play’ with his fiesta coz I was learning! Now wants his whole fleet done!

Hey Rich now you have done it havent you. You just said it took you ages and that was a Fiesta, they don’t come much smaller. Now you have the contract for the whole fleet I hope you are gonna price it right because a long wheel base Trannie is going to take a hell of a lot longer!
This was my point with the guy with the Victory V van. It’s all ok and looks great don’t get me wrong and good luck to you but to stay in business you must make a profit, just make sure you have priced for all that extra time for the fancy work.
Van looks good though I will say.

looks good mate.. well done! 😛 & thanks for giving us a look too! 😉
its no wonder you and your customer are pleased with the result!constructive critisism:
from what i can see i think you have wondered with the coachline text a little.. if applying seperate lines of text like this, ide advise running some masking tape the length first. look along it and see its straight.. stand back and look from a distance. if your happy. align the text to it…again only from what i can see in picture i “personaly” would have reduced the size of the text on the door. again thats just a personal opinion.
the logo on the back panel. did you overlay the ghost logo or was the ghost cut away to allow the logo to sit in place.. just wondering. 🙄
also, did you apply the ghost logos dry or wet? if wet, pay particular attention in those recesses over the next few weeks. -
Good tip that Robert, with the masking tape. Maybe on the door text it would have been better if the last line was split to form a new line as it appears a bit long compared to the rest. It looks like a web address and email address so that would be fine to split.

Looks a very professional job Rich, and also looks as if you’ll be well practised after doing a fleet!
Great looking website you have as well, very flashy 🙂

Thanks for the feedback folks…

Ahhh… there are lines on all three panels, so I followed these but I would have rather they were more equally spaced.
Overlay? Yes I overlayed the logo on top of the background “ghost”… It wend down dry and I used Oracle 751 which seemed managable… the recesses went in fine and I put a cut to the outer edge of the recess as suggested within.
Taking ages… yea, it did take ages but in all fairness I was pretty picky. The only part that took so long were the ghost wraps over the back panels. And no, I made next to zilch out of it… I have another business and this is something I have been interested in for a couple of years but not been in a position to try.
I went down to see Mike Brown during the summer and he gave me some great training in preparation and application. This job was more like a favour to an existing customer and something to show other customers.
Anyway, thanks for all the pointers. I have included a recent project but I was only responsible for design and outsourced the print and application… this is what I am aiming for!
Cheers,
Rich
