I orginally quoted this off a photo of his old toyota van.

Thankfully. the owner would not accept my price as he said I was too cheap compared to the previous sign shop. I am really pleased he was honest with me, cos it took a lot longer than I thought it would.

I had to redigitize the graphic off the old photo, but the result was pretty close to the original in the end.

In the middle of the job, while cutting the graphics, we had a huge electrical storm which killed our power for several hours, and stuffed up a few metres of tape in the process 😥

I used the Avery900 supercast as it was reqested by the client.

    Great job Shane

A lot more difficult trying to emulate someone’s artwork but you did it

Bet that left you blazing (hot)

Still you had the right van to help out if a fire broke out :lol1:

    Thanks everyone for your support.

Nigel, I have been doing work for this company in Brisbane for a couple of years, and the state manager has always been extremely fair when it comes to my pricing. He is one in a million in my mind.

Normally these large jobs goes to a Sydney sign company, as that is where their head office is, but they decided to buy a van here in Brisbane this time, and the Sydney crowd could not do it.

I hope to get a few more over the next few months, if they are happy with this job.

Brian, you must have a strong will mate, no way that bottle would last more than a week or so in our house, unopened 🙄

Take care everyone, and thanks again.

hi shane, looks great mate… you did a real nice job on it. you should be proud, certainly not an easy application… how did the vinyl cope with the recesses etc? ide imagine it doing the job well, how do you find it too oracal cast? im just being nosey because im not a lover of avery & i havent really used oracal cast. so value your opinion as i know you have used both…

constructive crit: only a self preference here mate coz i know you are working to spec. im not really a lover of big bold letters and the phone and service text seems a little strong on side front doors and back. maybe slimer text with kerning open a little?
the swoosh on the side sorta bounces along the side nicely but when it hits the rear wheel arch it kinda changes course and losses the gradual feel to it… if that makes sense? :lol1:

overall i think the vans very distictive and thats what its about at the end of the day…
thanks for taking the time to post your work shane, always great seeing your stuff. 😀

Thanks Rob, I know what you say mate about the design, but it was done by a graphic artist initially. I was only to copy the original design, and I would have changed a few things myself if I’d had the opportunity.

The Avery conformed rather well actually, not a fan of their product either, but the recess near the back wheels is very deep, and the A900 super cast is ‘made for it’ according to the avery rep, so we will see how it goes. Certainly conforms with heat better than 3M and to a lesser extent Oracal.

Oracal 851 cast is actually very good tho, my only complaint is when you heat it, it goes really soft like chewing gum, and can make it harder to apply. That said tho, I have no problem with using it, and is certainly my preferred product most of the time.

The new Oracal 751c is, to my mind, actually 3M 7725 cast, and acts the same way under the same circumstances. Being a big 3M user, I can not tell the difference between to two frankly.

    Thanks for all the comments.

    Cheers
    Shane
