• van wrap: bike it

Posted by Tim Shaw on June 9, 2006 at 11:48 am

Still the contact details and web address etc to go in dark charcoal. Printed on the V/camm, took approx 7hrs to fit.

Each chain link as the Bike It logo on. I drew a single link then made a brush out of it in Ill CS2, so I could get them to follow the curves and adjust the scale etc. Then I had to zoom in a make each link "flow" into the next and weld them together. Worst part was I couldnt mirror it so had to redraw
the chains for the OS so the lettering wasnt reversed.

The vinyl was Hexis white matt cast wrap vinyl (kg9829) with kg 9856 laminate. It is really thin about 80 microns when laminated.

The usual vinyl is use from hexis is 100 micron before laminating so these prints are like tissure paper. over 25% thinner than regular vinyl with two layers !!!!!

The fitter fitted them wet, I know you should’nt !!!!!. But it avoids carrying up the prints, we just wet them up, float it into place. Try to keep the soap to minimum. Much easier to line the prints upto each other. We may try clear application type next time, but just adds expense to the job. Start at the back, work around the vehicle and by the time you get to the first a lot of the water as gone. Wouldnt use this method on a full wrap, like bumpers and car wings etc.

Oon the next job we are going to try to the Hexis conform series, would love to use Avery controltac, just to expensive.
