    Hi,

Just got back from taking my Lass out for lunch at a local pub.

On the way there I spotted this little sign advertising Van Lettering for £25 😮 😮

How can people do this, we were discussing this in the pub and just couldn’t explain how these people only charge £25, its mental, there will be NO profit in it what so ever. Makes me a little angry to be honest.

Whats your opinion on these numpties (?)

    classic cowboys or trick advertising.

    take a transit…
two rear panels on each side approx 23inch square… slightly smaller for the back.

there is less than a square metre of vinyl used.
use a budget grade vinyl and your out a couple of quid, max!
    type in:

    JOE SOAP PLUMBERS
    29 BUBBLE STREET
    0156 8818188

one colour, cut in one go, fitted in minutes. no design work…
    easy £23 profit….

    as i said, a cowboy move… 🙄

    I called Mr Soap,
it actually cost him more than £25.
    the cowboy added a £200 call-out and £30 for the cleaning fluid 😉 ….

I never worry about busy fools.

let them get on with it,

Was it van lettering "for" or van lettering "from" A lot of people advertise low prices to get enquiries & then talk people up to something better. £25 does seem stupidly low though. Hopefully they will only attract the type of people that only want to spend pennies, business most people wouldn’t want I would guess.

Never seen the "£25 van" – but a guy here (a couple of years ago) was proud to flog £50 transit liveries.

OK, livery is a bit strong – think 2-3yr black vinyl text on two side panels & the back in either a block or some ‘gawd-awful’ brush font.

As Rob says – metre, metre & a half at £1 a metre plus cheapo tape…

Incidentally, this was the same guy that had EVERYBODY looking for him in a protracted, still "signing on", dodge the tax & bump your suppliers investigation. (Amazing what those pursuing him volunteer… :o) seems that the only people that used him was the ones you DON’T want as customers – penny pinching, fly-by-night types.

    Garrie,

those signs are round about where I am, they’re posted at Broadwood Stadium. But as far as I’m led to believe, they’ve never done a van for £25. The signs work as a draw to get the enquiries, customer inevitably spends considerably more………….. it’s a marketing ploy. 😕

We have a few cowboys here offering similar ideas. But, when you see what you get for your $75 people usually baulk, so then he’ll offer ‘enhancements’ for extra fees. Bit of a con really. Some jobs that I’ve seen end up dearer than what I’d charge, plus they get some decent artwork.

As Dave says, these people are not the customers you are looking for. Anyone that shops solely on price is always going to be hard work to satisfy. People that take up these offers are mostly fools that are easily parted from their money.

Its a bit like Dell computers marketing. They offer a basic computer that seems good value, but by the time you add the little extras to make it something decent, the savings over the competitors dearer product with bells and whistles is not always as big as you originally expected.

    Just seen this post.

I’m the same as Pete on this, just let them get on with it.

I sometimes get people asking me if I’m cheap, I just say no I’m trying to earn a living.

I just let them know "I don’t do cheap…but I do give value for money". I must admit, sometimes I sem cheap to some of my customers after they’ve been screwed over by an anonymous company or two.

Good advice from Pete – let them… they never seem to last more than a year selling crap at those prices anyway!

I wouldn’t class someone as a cowboy for advertising like this, not sure if it is a con or a very good marketing method. As people have said the customer never actually pays £25 for a job but I am sure they get a lot of inquiries.
I wouldn’t advertise like that myself as I feel you are misleading the customer but that’s only my personal opinion, doesn’t make it right or wrong.
