  • Van Insurance – Do I really need cover to drive customers vehicles?

Posted by Phill Fenton on March 3, 2022 at 8:21 pm

I have always had van insurance cover that also covers me to drive my customers vehicles. The policy is a Covea Motor Trade Policy. However, I can’t recall the last time I actually drove one of my customers vehicles on the highway. The only time I drive them is to bring them in and out of the unit into the car park which itself is private land. So I’m thinking of switching to a cheaper insurer that only covers me and my partner to drive the van and no other vehicle. My business insurance already provides insurance cover for customers vehicles held on my premises, but does not cover me to drive them. What do others do? What would you do if you were me?

Your post now has me wondering exactly what my cover is for!? 😳🤔

99% of vans are any driver – I ask my client if I’m ensured to drive it under there policy 🤣

That’s a new one on me, and I wouldn’t trust some customers when they say “yeah it’s fine”

Most Fully Comp policies now exclude driving commercial vehicles, and that includes small vans, in their ‘drive other vehicles’ cover.
