This is my first attempt using Oracal 3551G. Had no end of trouble. Did it dry, but had an added problem of wind gusts that made it more difficult. Never done one of these vans before either.

Did not want to do it wet because of all the indents on the sides, but wish now I had. Client was over the moon, even gave me a bear hug (that was a scary moment 😳 ) but I was disappointed in the amount of trouble I had, and the bubbles I had to pop. Told him the rest will come out in a few days parked in the sun (I hope 😕 )

Are these vans always this hard? Got 2 more next week 🙁

Nice one, that looks some size of print rather you than me.
I see it has started peeling already at the bottom left :lol1:

    Cheers

    Thanks Dave.

The print is 2100 wide and 1250 high. Did it in 1050 x 1250 panels, and off a ladder. I think in retrospect that was my downfall. Off to buy some tressels tomorrow. 😛

I got the peel idea from another post here some time back.

    Cheers

    Yeesh, it’s HUGE! 😮
Bet all the ladies say that.
    I’d have applied it wet,
    to me, it helps.
But Rob woulda done it dry.
    Turned out nice.

    HI

Nice van, I’ve done some large printed vinyl applications and I would have done it dry as well. It helps to have the vehicle inside though as even the smallest breese catches the vinyl.

Biggest print I’ve ever fitted was to an 8 x 4 sheet, but that was flat so doesn’t count 🙂

P.s. I’ll get a pic on my profile soon onust mistah.

Looking good Shane! 😀 I really like the Massive bit in the circle, kind of quirky 😀

Still jealous you get to work in the sun most days though 🙄

nice work shane… thanks for posting mate…

when you say you had bother applying, do you mean the vinyl gave the bother or the vehicle and fitting conditions?

we do about 2 of these vans each week for a contract we have.
its not the easiest of vans to work with and we have done many.
so you have done well with a big digi print like that for a first time go.

ide have to stress though, dont do this wet, there is no place to rid the water from under the vinyl. it has so many pocket recesses you will give yourself a major headache. 🙄

thanks for taking the time to post your work.. 😉

(anyone wanting to veiw these images bigger, just clcik on them and it will blow up larger)

Rob, It was a combo of both I think. I premasked the material so I didn’t stretch it, coz I figured it was not going to be easy anyway, but the tape STUCK HARD every time it touched the vehicle, and made it nearly impossible to work around the indents at times. 😥

I chose dry because I worked out the recesses and drainage would be a problem, so I am glad of your comments. The wind was an added problem, but I had already cancelled him twice because of the weather, and he was getting a little towy with having to wait . 👿

I may try the new material just released with the new repositionable adhesive for the next one. I am used to using 3M Controltac too, and the 3551 is very different.

End of the day practice makes all the difference I suppose.

Wardie, give me a hand and I’ll shout the beer 🙄

Thanks for everyones replys, I appreciate it.

    Cheers

:lol1: Yes Jill all the ladies do say that but unfortunately they are always referring to the size of my stomach! 🙁
