  • Van Design: creative or conservative?

Posted by Gordon Connelly on March 6, 2013 at 11:59 am

OK so I bought a van… Renault Trafic, 3 year old (LWB). I know most of you are probably rich and buy things like that with small change, but to me this is a huge leap… it even has a roof rack thing with little ladders on the back… awwwwwww

Just wondering if any of you have ideas for my van design?

I’m wondering if it’s best to be big, bold and creative or to be conservative and concise?

The measure is down to which will result in more people calling, of course.

    ๐Ÿ˜ฎ or (hot) ?

Do it to attract the customers you wish to deal with.
Want people with money to spend? Go classy.
Want tyre-kickers? Use a lot of Comic Sans and Brush script with a soupรงon of diamond plate and tru fire effetcs.
    Love….Jill

Ive only got a small ford connect but does what i need it to do. I went down the clean & simple look. And when i get round to it will wrap the rear doors as a showpeace. When i ask a customer want he wants on his van the amount that say… just something along the same lines as whats on your van! so i take thats as a compliment

Like Jill says try & target the sort of customers you are looking for or something I was going to do on my next van (which I never got) was to do both sides differently. Don’t see any reason why both sides of the van need to be exactly the same & if it were done properly I think you could create a design that went from something quite simple & clean on one side to something quite complex on the other.
Never got round to trying it but it seemed like a way to reach a larger market & show people that you were quite versatile in what you did.

I was gonna suggest you run a competition to design your van in the Graphic Design section……..but we just know Jill would win it! (love1) :rabble: ๐Ÿ˜€

From the way I’ve been getting beat up on in another sign forum lately you’d think I don’t know my @ss from a hole in the ground when it comes to signs.

    I do like Martin’s idea of a two-sided design.
Kind of like a mullet hairdo, business in the front and party in the back!

Jilly-chops, you ever need any help distinguishing between the two, just shout…

I’m now thinking about the sort of customers I want to attract… I hadn’t thought about that. That’s tough.

I suppose my ideal customer, much like my ideal woman, would be extremely daft and have lots of money ๐Ÿ˜‰

I think I’ll go for a more subtle approach, classy and conservative if possible. Someone used trasparent laminate on a black van on here and I thought it looked good… might do something subtle like that. I was thinking it would be good to use reflective stuff that would jump out at you when lights hit it at night but was virtually impossible to see during the day.

I don’t like the idea of doing it half one way and half another.

Good to hear thoughts though. Thanks. Would love to see pictures of UKSB members’ vans but I expect they’d be worried about me copying them.

Anyone surprised that the snow is always melting around Jill, given how hot she is? Nice work. That gold vinyl or something?

It’s glass etch Oracal in gold, which has been on there about 4 years.
Kinda sick of it at this point, and have new prints ready for the tailgate.

Van is white, I’m afraid, Rob… I’m actually sort of glad it’s white as it fits in with my website which is blue and white.

My shop which is dominated by my other company is green and white — I got a lot of nasty feedback (seriously, from Rangers fans) for switching to green and white which was meant to make us look environmentally friendly. Of course, it’s a total lie, there’s nothing environmentally friendly about anything I do.

Anyway, I was planning on leaving the van white for a few weeks until I came up with a clever idea for the design but I’ve decided just to whack it right away… I can’t afford to miss out on any potential sales the advertising might generate.

I’ll post my design on Monday or Tuesday and you can all have a laugh. I’d love to use the C word in really big bold letters but I suppose it would be against the law or something to go around with that on a van. As much as I love the C word, deploying it has caused me a lot of hassle over the years. Would definitely grab your attention though…

I’ll send you a link to the new website, Rob. Always good to hear your opinion. Actually, I think the domain name was your idea… so you can see what I done with your idea. If the business fails miserably, I’ll park the van with the C word outside your office and leave it there. Might even put a huge picture of my genitals on the side…

    Love all that…
